ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF NURSING CI Grade: 24

Location: MDH, Clifton T. Perkins Hospital Center, Jessup, MD

Main Purpose This recruitment is for two positions. Both will function as Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) – Court‑Involved, at the managerial level, assisting the Director of Nursing at CTPHC. The ADONs will manage day‑to‑day operations, develop and implement goals, objectives, standards, policies and procedures for the nursing department at Clifton T Perkins Hospital Center (CTPHC), where care is provided to mentally ill patients who have been judged not criminally responsible for committing felonies, and to those who are difficult to manage in a less secure setting and who have been deemed dangerous to themselves or others. ADONs are subject to call‑in. Responsibilities include regulatory compliance, standards of care compliance, scheduling compliance, and personnel management as assigned by the Chief Nursing Officer. The positions supervise registered nurse managers and, indirectly, registered nurse supervisors and subordinate staff.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: A Master's degree in Nursing or a health‑related field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four years as a Registered Nurse in a psychiatric setting, including two years in a supervisory, consultative, teaching, or administrative capacity.

Notes

Substitution: A Bachelor's degree in Nursing or a health‑related field plus six years experience as a Registered Nurse in a psychiatric setting, including four years in a supervisory, consultative, teaching, or administrative capacity.

Substitution: U.S. Armed Forces military service experience at a rank of Corporal/Petty Officer or higher as a commissioned officer in Nursing classifications or Nursing and Hospital Administration specialty codes on a year‑for‑year basis.

Desired or Preferred Qualifications

Experience managing day‑to‑day clinical/nursing operations in an acute or inpatient behavioral hospital.

Experience managing staffing or scheduling.

Expert knowledge of TJC, COMAR and CMS regulations for behavioral health hospitals.

Experience in providing training and education to nursing employees.

Flexibility in assisting the nursing department as situations arise.

Licenses, Registrations and Certifications

Current license as a Registered Nurse from the Maryland State Board of Nursing or a current multi‑state license in primary states of residence.

Validity to operate a motor vehicle in Maryland, if assigned duties require it.
