Vice President for Administration and Finance

POSITION DETAILS CUNY’s Lehman College, a senior college of The City University of New York, invites applications for the Vice President for Administration and Finance. Lehman, a Hispanic Serving Institution, serves a diverse population of more than 14,000 undergraduate and graduate students.

The Vice President for Administration and Finance provides vision and leadership to manage the College’s operating and capital budgets; pursues innovative business solutions to enhance overall effectiveness; works collaboratively with senior staff, faculty, administrators, and external constituents; and advocates for funding for Lehman College. Reporting to the President, the Vice President is a member of the President’s Cabinet and the chief advisor on fiscal affairs and facilities operations. She/he is the principal liaison to CUNY system administration, government agencies, and other entities regarding fiscal, administrative, and operational matters.

OVERSEEING UNITS

Budget and Planning

– Responsible for financial planning and budgeting, developing long‑term financial projections, and ensuring compliance with college, university, and state regulations.

Campus Planning and Facilities

– Works with the University and the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York in matters related to the planning, programming, design, and operation of capital and maintenance projects.

Environmental Health and Safety

– Provides oversight and training to reduce workplace accidents and injuries and ensures compliance with environmental and governmental regulations.

Financial Operations

– Enhances the College’s financial strength through fiscal analysis, monitoring, planning, and reporting, providing services through General Accounting, Accounts Payable, Auxiliary Services, Bursar, and Student Financial Services.

Human Resources

– Partners with academic and administrative departments to recruit and retain a diverse workforce, managing benefits, payroll, and employee recognition.

Public Safety

– Maintains a safe environment and directs emergency response and management on campus.

RESPONSIBILITIES Chaired with strengthening the College’s ability to generate, effectively allocate, and manage resources in support of institutional goals, the Vice President’s responsibilities are grouped into three major areas:

Fiscal Management and Resource Development

– Serves as the College’s Chief Financial Officer. Plans, directs, and coordinates fiscal affairs, develops financial strategy, controls operating and capital budgets, and provides expert fiscal and operational policy advice to the President and college leadership.

Continuous Improvement and Innovation

– Demonstrates proactive improvement of operations through re‑engineering, new technology, and best‑practice assessment, ensuring budget alignment and efficient service delivery.

Strategic Leadership

– Provides strategic leadership aligned with the College and University mission, cultivates customer service and innovation, and represents the President on key committees and task forces.

QUALIFICATIONS This position is in CUNY’s Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a bachelor’s degree and eight years of related experience. The ideal candidate will have:

Progressively responsible senior executive experience in higher education, government, or a comparable business organization; advanced degree in business administration, finance, accounting, or higher education administration; and knowledge of New York State operations and capital budgeting processes.

A record of innovative, entrepreneurial, and collegial leadership; strong team‑building, excellent communication, and an enduring commitment to public higher education.

CUNY TITLE Vice President

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS Salary commensurate with education and experience, $205,000 – $235,000 (revised).
