Senior Accountant – San Diego, CA
Base pay range
$110,000.00/yr - $130,000.00/yr
Additional compensation Annual Bonus and Stock options
Position Summary Our client is a growing biotechnology company advancing innovative therapeutics across Oncology. We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join a small but mighty accounting team. Candidates must be commutable to the office 1-2 times per month in San Diego.
Key Responsibilities
Own and execute monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
Prepare and review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
Maintain the general ledger in accordance with US GAAP
Support financial statement preparation and variance analysis
Assist with external audits, tax filings, and SOX or internal control initiatives (if applicable)
Manage accounting for R&D expenses, accruals, prepaid expenses, and fixed assets
Partner with FP&A on budget vs. actual analysis and forecasting support
Improve and document accounting processes and procedures as the organization scales
Support systems implementations or upgrades (e.g., NetSuite) as needed
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field is
required
4+ years of progressive accounting experience
Biotech, life sciences, pharma, or high-growth startup experience strongly preferred
Strong knowledge of US GAAP and financial reporting requirementsExperience with month-end close and audit support
Proficiency with accounting systems such as
NetSuite
(preferred) and Excel
CPA or CPA-eligible strongly preferred
Preferred Experience
Clinical-stage or pre-revenue biotech experience
R&D cost accounting and accruals
Public accounting background (Big 4 or mid-tier)
Experience in a scaling or pre-IPO environment
