Position Summary We are seeking a highly motivated and strategic‑minded Business Developer to join our landscaping business. Reporting to the Branch Manager, as Business Developer you will be responsible for driving maintenance growth through winning new Maintenance contracts. You will work closely with the Branch Manager and the organizational Sales and Marketing teams to develop and implement strategies.

Responsibilities

Branch Growth Plan – partner with the Branch Manager to develop an Annual Branch Strategic Growth Plan designed to meet expectations and based on a clear understanding of the branch’s strengths.

Maintenance Sales Goals – know your common win rate and what proposal levels will be necessary to meet the branch plan.

Industry Targets – review current industry performance results and develop a plan for increasing industry penetration or developing new industry expansion.

Relationship Targets – determine the clients and/or property management companies we want to continue/expand relationships.

Build a Network – Identify the Trade Shows that represent our target markets; execute successful trade show plan.

Lead Generation / Education – Host lunch & learns, and other networking events that position you to learn of potential opportunities and educate potential clients on our expertise.

Prospecting – Large email campaigns & cold calling (using Atlas Lab lists) on customers/properties in our target markets (Top 25).

Nurture Relationships – Solve problems, continually communicate, schedule quality interactions, and build credibility across a large network of contacts.

Qualify Work – Identify the properties that meet the designed, targeted work within customer profile.

Define Customer Expectations – clearly grasp the needs of the client and the underlying context within the RFP.

Facilitate Cost Estimation Process – ensure the estimation process is completed and a strong cost‑based estimate is built (using Aspire Template).

Contribute To Pricing Conversation – understand current market rates, the customer’s budget, and other factors that may impact the price; participate to assist the Branch Manager in setting a price to win.

Customized Proposal Delivery – assemble & present a proposal that targets the customer’s expectations, needs, and highlights the value of our capabilities.

Effective Negotiation – seek to achieve a deal that is a win/win, resulting in a joint venture primed for a long‑lasting partnership.

Guide Transition Planning – prepare all notes, documents, contract requirements and work with Branch Manager to develop a schedule for successful New Customer Onboarding.

Lead Customer Onboarding – arrange and facilitate a successful meeting between the customer and the assigned account management team.

Support Relationship Handoff – through the first 60‑90 days, stay connected with the AM and the customer during the development of the relationship, assisting in the cleanup of issues/miscommunication and communicating to the client the New Customer Survey and the importance of their response.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or a related field.

Proven experience (3+ years) in business development or sales, preferably in the landscaping or related industry.

Strong sales and negotiation skills, with a track record of achieving sales targets.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain client relationships.

Strategic thinking and analytical abilities to identify market opportunities and develop effective strategies.

Solid understanding of landscaping principles, materials, and practices.

Self‑motivated with a proactive approach to identifying and pursuing new business opportunities; ability to work well under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.

Working Conditions

Inside an office environment as well as outdoors temperatures ranging from cold 50° to heat of 100°+ and exposure to light rain.

Exposure to dust, pollen, chemicals, noise and pollutants related to the landscape industry (fertilizer, pesticide, etc.).

Machinery/equipment noise, traffic and hazards related to the landscape industry in a busy commercial environment.
