Overview
San Jose, CA – $85,000–$160,000 (base salary + commission). Business Developer for a landscaping business, reporting to Branch Manager and focusing on new maintenance contract acquisition.
Position Summary We are seeking a highly motivated, strategic-minded Business Developer to join our landscaping business. The role will drive maintenance growth by winning new maintenance contracts, working closely with the Branch Manager, and collaborating with the Sales and Marketing teams.
Responsibilities
Strategic Growth Planning : Partner with Branch Manager to develop an annual branch strategic growth plan, set maintenance sales goals, and identify industry and relationship targets.
Build a Network : Identify trade shows, host lunch & learns, execute large email campaigns, and nurture relationships across a broad network of contacts.
Win New Maintenance Contracts : Qualify properties, define client expectations, facilitate cost estimation, contribute to pricing, deliver customized proposals, and conduct effective negotiation for long‑lasting partnerships.
Account Relationship Transitions : Guide transition planning, lead customer onboarding, support relationship handoff, and maintain client communication throughout the onboarding period.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or related field.
3+ years in business development or sales, preferably in landscaping or related industry.
Strong sales and negotiation skills with a proven record of achieving targets.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to establish and maintain client relationships.
Strategic thinking and analytical abilities to identify market opportunities and develop effective strategies.
Solid understanding of landscaping principles, materials, and practices.
Self‑motivated, proactive, and able to work well under pressure, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
Working Conditions
Inside office environment and outdoors, temperatures ranging from 50° to 100°+, and exposure to light rain.
Exposure to dust, pollen, chemicals, noise, and pollutants related to the landscape industry (fertilizer, pesticide, etc.).
Machinery/equipment noise, traffic, and hazards in a busy commercial environment.
