Director of Critical Care & Cardiology
Northside Hospital is an award-winning, state-of-the-art facility continually expanding its quality and reach to patients and communities in Atlanta and beyond. The Director of Critical Care & Cardiology Services is responsible and accountable for both the clinical quality and financial viability of the Critical Care and Cardiac service lines, which includes Diagnostic Cardiac testing sites, Cardiac Cath Labs, Electrophysiology Labs, and associated Prep and Recovery units providing procedural, intermediate, and intensive care throughout the continuum of care. This role provides subject matter leadership and visibility across all organizational boundaries, supports vision, direction, and management of clinical operations, business decisions, and facilitates marketing, public relations and financial results.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities Operational
Assumes responsibility, through assigned department managers or coordinators, for the effective management of Critical Care & Cardiology departments, evaluating daily activities and making operational changes to improve service levels.
Identifies needs of departments and individuals, develops departmental goals, objectives, policies and procedures that meet those needs and support division and hospital goals.
Contributes to hospital-wide policies, participates in hospital committees addressing operational issues, and oversees projects and issues assigned by leadership.
Ensures clinical quality and financial viability of Critical Care & Cardiology services, implements organizational policies, and recommends new policies to enhance heart and vascular services.
Provides strategic direction in accordance with organizational priorities and achieves strategic and tactical goals.
Marketing and Planning
Recommends and evaluates strategic program development and effectiveness in conjunction with planning and marketing.
Develops functional or departmental goals to support service-line or divisional objectives.
Implements a plan to coordinate components of the Critical Care and Cardiology Service Lines across the continuum of care throughout the system.
Medical Staff
Collaborates with Medical Staff on daily service issues and problem resolution.
Ensures physician involvement relative to Critical Care and Cardiology.
Fiscal Management
Develops, submits, and monitors departmental capital and operating budgets, authorizing expenditures per policy.
Analyzes and monitors financial performance through productivity, expenses and revenues.
Provides input for annual volume projections, price adjustments, and responds to market trends.
Manages staffing and scheduling to meet defined targets.
Human Resources
Determines human resource needs, develops programs to improve departmental quality and efficiency.
Recruits, hires, orients, and evaluates performance of managers and supervisors.
Develops master staffing plans, identifies training needs, and implements strategies for employee retention.
Quality Improvement
Develops and administers departmental Quality Improvement plans consistent with the hospital mission.
Assumes responsibility for the division’s quality improvement program, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation agencies.
Communications
Coordinates with departments and services for operational efficiency and quality service delivery.
Communicates with System Director regarding problems affecting departmental operations.
Keeps departmental staff informed of information critical to safe and effective performance.
Leadership
Integrates departmental services with the hospital’s primary functions and coordinates with other departments.
Develops and implements policies, provides staff qualifications, and continuously improves performance.
Maintains quality control programs, provides orientation and ongoing education, and recommends resources.
General Responsibilities
Practices proper safety techniques and reports any equipment malfunctions, unsafe conditions or injuries promptly.
Additional Duties
Other duties as assigned by supervision.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Required)
Master’s degree in Nursing, BS degree in Nursing or related healthcare field; minimum 5 years nursing experience, with at least 2 in supervisory or managerial capacity.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Georgia.
Preferred Qualifications
Two (2) years clinical experience in specialty cardiology or critical care.
