Surgical Technologist – West Bank

Immediate opening for a 0.9‑FTE Surgical Technologist (72 hours per two‑week pay period) at the University of Minnesota Medical Center – West Bank in Minneapolis, MN. Rotating D/E/N shifts, 8‑hour shifts, on‑call as needed, minimum 1 night per week and 1 weekend per month. Sign‑on bonus of $6,750 and relocation bonus up to $5,000.
Salary: $32.20–$44.13 per hour.
Job Overview As a Surgical Technologist, you will assist in surgical procedures by preparing the operating room, arranging and passing instruments to surgeons, and ensuring a sterile environment under the guidance of a Registered Nurse. You will play a crucial role in supporting the surgical team and maintaining the safety and efficiency of the operating room.
Responsibilities
Supply appropriate instruments, sutures, and specialty items.
Maintain aseptic technique during all sterile procedures.
Ensure accurate identification and handling of specimens.
Count all required sponges, sharps, and instruments.
Assure availability and accurate functioning of supplies and equipment.
Modify clinical interventions based on population served.
Nurture a culture of improvement, efficiency, and innovative thinking.
Anticipate surgeons’ needs.
Act appropriately in emergency situations.
Required Qualifications
Complete one of the following by hire date:
Military Surgical Assistant; OR
LPN (licensed in MN) Surgical Assistant; OR
Surgical Technologist training
Basic Life Support (BLS) through Health Care Providers (or ability to obtain by hire date)
Preferred Qualifications
Graduate from an accredited Surgical Technologist program
AST certification or certification eligible at time of hire
1‑3 years surgical tech experience
Other Required Skills
Knowledge of physical, psychosocial, and cognitive developmental needs of population served.
Knowledge of age‑appropriate outcomes and interventions.
Desired Skills
Demonstrate ability to work under stress in a variety of situations.
Ability to work well in a team environment.
