The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for all nursing services, supervision of home health aides, and ensuring compliance with AHCA licensure standards. This role leads and oversees all clinical and nursing operations for the Florida home health program, providing strategic and operational oversight across multiple regions to ensure consistent, high-quality, compliant, and person-centered care. The DON delivers clinical leadership, ensures regulatory adherence, and supports scalable nursing oversight and overall operational performance.

Responsibilities What You'll Do:
Regulatory Compliance & Clinical Leadership
Provide oversight of clinical operations and nursing care delivery across the Florida home health program
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including Medicare Conditions of Participation where applicable, with responsibility for documentation accuracy, OASIS oversight, and interdisciplinary coordination
EMR & Documentation
Serve as the clinical owner for the home health EMR platform (e.g., WellSky), ensuring accurate clinician documentation, timely submissions, error resolution, and optimization of workflows, alerts, forms, and quality assurance pathways.
Utilize EMR analytics and dashboards to monitor visit completion, identify compliance and clinical risk trends, drive QAPI initiatives, and ensure timely documentation.
Quality & QAPI
Develop and implement clinical policies and procedures including documentation, infection control practices, and care standards.
Lead and maintain the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) program in accordance with AHCA and Medicare standards, including infection control monitoring, clinical record review, adverse event analysis, unannounced supervisory visit compliance, and quarterly program reporting.
Staff Management & Multi‑Site Coverage
Manage and support clinical teams across multiple regions, ensuring effective delegation, frequent field presence, consistent supervisory practices, and scalable staffing models.
Evaluate regional acuity, visit volume, and staffing patterns to allocate clinical resources appropriately and maintain compliance across all branches and offices.
Operational & Growth Partnership
Partner with intake, scheduling, business development, and operational leadership to support growth initiatives, including clinical onboarding, staffing readiness, coverage planning, and service expansion.
Participate in license expansion planning, branch or office compliance setup, and regulatory readiness reviews during geographic growth.
Qualifications
Ensure compliance with Florida Administrative Code 59A-8, including supervision of nursing services and home health aide competency validation.
Maintain client service records and ensure documentation is completed within required timeframes.
Conduct or delegate required home health aide supervisory visits in accordance with Florida regulations.
Ensure availability during agency operating hours as required by AHCA.
Oversee timely Plan of Care Development, updates, and physician communication.
Ensure clinical staff meet personnel file, licensure, and in‑service education requirements.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Nursing, Nursing Administration, or related discipline.
Experience leading skilled home health services, audits, or accreditation preparation.
Minimum of two years of experience serving as a Director of Nursing or alternate DON in a licensed Florida Home Health Agency (strongly preferred).
Demonstrated experience managing skilled clinical services (RN, LPN, PT/OT/ST) and home health aide supervision within a Medicare‑certified or private‑duty home health agency.
Experience overseeing multi‑branch or multi‑region home health operations preferred.
Required Skills/Abilities
Active and unrestricted Florida Registered Nurse (RN) license.
Minimum three years of supervisory experience in home health, skilled nursing, hospice, or related clinical setting.
Strong working knowledge of Florida home health regulations, including Florida Administrative Code 59A-8, AHCA requirements, documentation standards, supervisory visit requirements, staffing rules, infection control protocols, and Medicare Conditions of Participation.
Proficiency in home health EMR systems such as WellSky, HCHB, Kinnser, or Axxess, with the ability to train clinicians, troubleshoot workflows, and ensure accurate, timely documentation.
Demonstrated ability to manage clinical operations across large geographic regions, including remote team leadership, regional travel, and consistent multi‑site compliance oversight.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Requirements
Ability to move, transport, or position up to 50 pounds.
Ability to move or traverse about in offices and/or client homes, including ascending and descending stairs.
Ability to communicate effectively and clearly with others to exchange information.
Travel Requirements
Regular travel on a daily or weekly basis required to meet Florida HHA supervisory visit standards, survey readiness needs, and clinical staff oversight across multiple locations.
