Data Scientist – U.S. Customs and Border Protection
Join the Office of Human Resources Management, People Analytics Division to apply advanced data science techniques to support senior management decisions across CBP operations.
Responsibilities
Extract, transform, clean, and model structured and unstructured data using machine learning, AI, and statistical methods.
Analyze large datasets to forecast critical problems and inform data‑driven decisions for HRM and CBP programs.
Convert raw data from diverse systems into organized information and prepare visual reports.
Present findings to partner organizations and serve as the primary HRM data science representative in interagency contacts.
Qualifications
U.S. Citizen; residency for at least three of the last five years.
Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science, or related field (or equivalent education and experience).
1 year of specialized experience at GS‑14 level performing duties such as advanced statistical techniques, data extraction, modeling, and data visualization.
Proficiency with programming languages (Python, R, etc.), SQL, and data visualization tools.
Knowledge of agile development tools (Jira, GitLab, Confluence) and user‑centric UX/UI principles.
Benefits Competitive base salary ($124,531–$161,889 / yr, GS‑14) with locality pay adjustments, full‑time employment, and opportunity to work in multiple locations including Indianapolis, Minneapolis, Washington, D.C.
