The Assistant Attorney General works in the Office of the Attorney General within the Criminal Appeals Unit in Miami, Florida. The role represents the State of Florida in criminal appeals and related proceedings. Qualifications
Admission to the Florida Bar and at least two (2) years of professional experience in the practice of law, legal research, teaching law, or in administrative or judicial hearings. Membership in good standing in another state Bar can substitute for the required admission to the Florida Bar provided the attorney obtains admission within 12 months of appointment. A degree of Bachelor of Laws or Juris Doctor from an accredited law school. Responsibilities
Represent the State of Florida in all criminal appeals filed with the District Court of Appeal and the Florida Supreme Court. Supervise the timely filing of necessary pleadings and documents on appeal; review assignments of error and prepare briefs setting forth the State of Florida’s contentions. Conduct oral arguments and handle all post‑conviction litigation, federal habeas corpus proceedings, and extraordinary writs as required.
