Commissioning Project Engineer – Hyperscale Data Centers (Various Locations)
Contract Role – On Site
Locations: Saline MI, Columbus OH, South Bend IN, Boydton VA, San Antonio TX
Schedule: M–F 10 hrs; Saturday 8 hrs
Pay: $50.00/hr – $80.00/hr (ranges may vary based on experience)
PTO, Paid Holidays, 401k with company match after 90 days. Available Medical, Dental, Vision.
This position will be tasked with turning massive mechanical and electrical systems from construction‑ready to fully operational, ensuring every component functions correctly before the facility goes live. Reporting directly to the Commissioning Manager to bring a hyperscale data center to operational status: ensuring reliability, redundancy, and safety for facilities that power cloud platforms, AI workloads, and global‑scale applications.
Duties & Responsibilities
Lead Early-Phase Commissioning (L2-L3)
Build and manage the Heat-to-Cool (H2C) testing schedule with the campus team.
Coordinate startup, inspections, and vendor/subcontractor testing to keep commissioning on track.
Support pre-energization checks and help resolve installation issues before systems go live.
Drive Functional & Integrated Testing (L4-L5 / IST)
Prepare systems and teams for functional testing and full Integrated Systems Testing (IST).
Coordinate load-bank activities, airflow adjustments, and daily support with mechanical/electrical contractors.
Ensure all stakeholders – ACx, CxA, supers, and vendors – are aligned and ready each day.
Be the Technical Go-To for OFCI Equipment.
Support the setup, integration, and troubleshooting of Owner-Furnished/Contractor-Installed mechanical and electrical equipment.
Assist with issues related to installation, performance, or deviations from approved specs.
Keep the Project Moving: maintain delay logs and help remove roadblocks impacting testing or energization.
Capture lessons learned to help refine future commissioning cycles.
Support site teams during final readiness checks, including PFHO and turnover prep.
Requirements
Experience in data-center commissioning.
PMP or P.E. Preferred.
Familiarity with commissioning phases (L2-L5, H2C, load-bank testing, IST).
Strong coordination skills – field work, working directly with supers, contractors, vendors, and commissioning authorities.
Adaptability to shift changes.
Excellent documentation skills.
Proactive, problem-solving mindset.
