Summary This project manager will work closely with the PI overseeing multiple projects, including a large industry-funded project. The project manager will be responsible for aspects of project administration, planning and implementing study protocols directly with the PI, overseeing several staff members on these projects, and participating in other study aspects. The project manager will work very independently. The project manager will also coordinate and carry out study-related activities such as designing data collection instruments, programming study databases, organizing and maintaining various meetings/agendas, assisting with hiring and training of new staff, and creating, managing, and maintaining several internal review board protocols.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

Serve as the project manager for a clinical research and epidemiology lab, working closely with the PI, clinical research coordinators, junior faculty members, trainees, post docs, collaborators, and other teams inside and outside of MGB.

Work on the creation and coordination of clinical trials and observational studies, including initial planning, regulatory approval, study logistics and implementation, and long-term data management.

Serve as the project manager for a NIH-funded observational studies studying rheumatoid arthritis.

Supervise various staff with recruitment, study visits, and participant communications.

Provide insight on project development and strategy.

Oversee, orient, train, and coach staff, including research assistants and students.

Coordinate staff/faculty schedules when study visits and recruitment are occurring for multiple projects simultaneously.

Evaluate staff and assist with annual reviews.

Serve as the primary point of contact for individuals regarding questions about research studies and IRB protocols.

Contribute to writing progress reports, regulatory reports for institutional review board approval, human subjects’ annual reviews, development and revision of instruments, and preparation of graphics.

Contribute to manuscript writing by providing study details.

Provide investigators with current references.

Independently research the literature and follow up on specific requests from research staff.

Contribute to the development of the methods and design of studies, including recruitment strategies and data collection protocols.

Recommend changes to protocols and enter data according to written protocols.

Independently develop data tracking systems and logs and maintain up-to-date records on all research subjects as well as core service requests.

Supervise junior staff members and provide assistance to faculty new to research.

Contact and collect data on subjects and evaluate subjects to determine eligibility.

Conduct surveys and participate in focus group discussions with patients suffering from rheumatic diseases.

Undertake drafting and implementation of questionnaires, surveys, interviews and other instruments for research projects.

Communicate regularly with the PIs and research team about all aspects of the research projects.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education Bachelor’s Degree Related Field of Study required. Can this role accept experience in lieu of a degree? Yes.

Experience Project management experience 2–3 years required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Strong knowledge of project management tools and methodologies.

Excellent presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts in a clear and engaging manner.

Proficiency in project management software.

Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities.
