**Department**: The State of Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF), Southcoast Region Design & Engineering Services.

About the Position We are hiring an Engineer/Architect 1/2 Flex located anywhere in Alaska to support the Department’s mission to Keep Alaska Moving. The position is flexibly staffed and may be filled at either the Engineer/Architect 1 or Engineer/Architect 2 level, depending on your training and experience.

Responsibilities

Engineer/Architect 1 : Lead small‑to‑medium capital improvement projects, including preliminary engineering, field reconnaissance, development, design, and production of plans, specifications, estimates, and other engineering documents. Manage a multidisciplinary team, mentor Engineering Assistants, and conduct field reconnaissance as needed.

Engineer/Architect 2 : Lead medium‑to‑large capital improvement projects, performing all duties listed for Engineer/Architect 1 plus additional responsibilities appropriate to larger scopes.

Qualifications

Professional registration as a Civil Engineer (PE) or Architect in the State of Alaska (or in a state with recognized portability). If not registered in Alaska, you must become registered within one year of hire.

Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites, including remote communities, and to operate light aircraft when required.

• Civil Engineering knowledge for design, construction, operation, and maintenance of transportation infrastructure.

• Analytical thinking and problem‑solving skills using systematic approaches.

• Oral and written communication skills for clear, effective presentations and written documentation.
