Director, Business Development

We are looking for a digitally savvy, results‑driven sales leader to generate new business and expand market share across our Northstar Meetings Group's North American events and integrated media platforms.
This Director, Business Development role combines strategic hustle with a deep understanding of digital marketing and omnichannel engagement to connect destinations, hotels, and brands with Northstar’s powerful planner audience.
The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of exceeding goals and selling integrated, multi‑platform programs. In this role, you will lead the full sales lifecycle from prospecting and pipeline development to customized proposal creation, campaign strategy, and deal closure, while leveraging analytics, intent data, and performance insights to optimize outcomes. You’ll collaborate closely with internal teams to build multi‑platform programs that integrate events, content, and digital solutions, while cultivating long‑term client relationships that drive retention, renewal, and measurable growth.
This is a remote position open to candidates based in the United States. The ideal candidate will be based in Florida.
We also have an office in Rutherford, New Jersey for those who favor being in an office a few days a week.
What You’ll Do
Drive aggressive revenue growth by developing and executing a strategic territory plan that expands sales among existing clients while relentlessly prospecting and securing new business
Identify, pursue, and close new opportunities across digital, data, event, and custom marketing solutions to meet and exceed monthly and annual goals
Apply consultative selling expertise to uncover client challenges, position integrated Northstar solutions, and deliver measurable ROI that helps customers achieve their business objectives
Understand the competitive landscape and educate agencies and customers regarding the value and strength of Northstar Meetings Group events and marketing portfolio to reach the meeting and incentive planner audience in the marketplace
Create proposals and presentations and answer RFPs in a timely manner
Work with internal teams on analytics, pre/post sale to clearly communicate progress of campaigns to clients and internal stakeholders
Collaborate closely with management to build and maintain relationships with clients that include strategic consultation and support
Travel to attend client meetings and industry events to deepen relationships, identify new opportunities, and prospect for future partnerships
Provide detailed and accurate sales forecasting weekly
What You Have
7+ years of proven success in B2B digital and event business development, preferably within the meetings, travel, hospitality industries
Experience in digital and data‑led marketing sales, with the ability to build integrated campaigns that connect digital, content, and event channels for measurable ROI
Demonstrated track record of exceeding revenue goals through proactive prospecting, pipeline management, and consultative selling
Strong hunter mentality highly motivated, resilient, and driven by results, with the ability to identify and close new opportunities in a competitive marketplace
Exceptional presentation, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to executive‑level decision makers
Proficient in using CRM systems (HubSpot or similar) to manage pipeline, forecasting, and reporting
Collaborative team player mentality with the ability to work cross‑functionally with marketing, analytics, and event operations teams
Willingness to travel frequently (25‑30%) for client meetings, industry events, and Northstar programs
Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, or related field preferred
