Development Director

– American Heart Association, San Diego (La Jolla) – Full‑time

Overview Since 1924, the American Heart Association has cut cardiovascular disease deaths in half, but there is still much more to do. We need passionate individuals to drive our Heart Challenge fundraising campaign, including the signature San Diego Heart and Stroke Walk event. This hybrid position is based in the San Diego division and is flexible to the field, home, or La Jolla office.

Responsibilities

Generate revenue by prospecting and securing local corporate sponsorship and individual donations, achieving revenue goals and maintaining relationships with corporate partners and donors.

Build and maintain a pipeline of prospective corporate sponsors and donors through research aligned with campaign goals.

Develop and present proposals and accompanying materials to secure revenue and volunteer engagement.

Recruit and lead executive volunteer leadership and day‑of‑the‑event volunteers.

Recruit corporate team participation in Heart Walk and motivate team members to fundraise.

Lead and engage new individual membership for our Cor Vitae giving society, planning and implementing regular engagement events in partnership with fundraising staff.

Plan and implement events in collaboration with internal and external partners.

Work with a Communications Director to support and promote campaign communication plans.

Qualifications

At least 3 years of relevant experience in fundraising, sales, or related fields.

University/College degree or equivalent experience.

Full‑time availability with daily local travel and some overnight trips; reliable transportation required.

Physical ability to lift and/or move large objects (with assistance as needed).

Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Preferred Experience & Skills

Experience managing and cultivating high‑level leaders at the C‑Suite level.

Knowledge of corporate and community networks.

Compensation & Benefits Salary range: $65,700 – $83,000 annually, commensurate with experience. The position is incentive eligible up to 25% of base pay based on achieving revenue targets.
