Specialty Director Theatre & Day Surgery The closing date is 04 January 2026.

The Surgical Division are looking for applications for the post of Specialty Director, Theatres at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

The Specialty Director role exists to lead on the cross-county strategic development and operational delivery of the specialty service or cluster of services.

Main duties of the job The post holder is responsible for leading the delivery of clinical services for Theatres and Day Surgery Services at the highest possible standards and within the Trust's financial, workforce, operational targets and strategic objectives.

Leading the Specialties with the Modern Matron and General Manager to deliver income targets within devolved budget/s for the service line within his/her remit including working with the General Manager on Financial Sustainability Programme (FSP) plans.

Job responsibilities

Leading the speciality with the Modern Matron and General Manager to deliver the strategic vision for Theatres and Day Surgery Units. This does not involve direct line management.

Strategic development of services for Theatres and Day Surgery Units working with partners across the Health and Social Care System.

Managing external reviews and Regulators.

Contribute to the achievement of the Trusts Operational and Strategic Aims.

Clinical Governance.

Audit / Quality Improvement / Clinical Safety.

Person Specification Qualification

Clinician of at least 12 months demonstrating successful clinical practice and good reputation.

Knowledge and Skills

Leadership/Management.

Evidence of leadership and/or people management (including persuasion/negotiation and conflict management).

Service Improvement (must include improved quality/safety).

Clinical/Experience

Leadership/Management Programme.

Financial and budgetary awareness.

Broader picture/agenda.

External work roles e.g. professional body or the Deanery.

Interests and Motivation to succeed in the role

A clear understanding of the job requirements.

Commitment to the role/challenges.

Energy and courage.
