Job Overview We would like to appoint a Salaried GP for 6 sessions per week covering maternity leave for a period of 8-9 months commencing April / May 2026.
We would be very happy to accept applications from newly qualified GPs.
We are looking for a team player who will work well in a forward thinking practice that is constantly changing and improving to deliver excellent patient care.
We have caring, friendly, supportive staff where all views and ideas are actively welcomed.
Main duties of the job To perform as an autonomous general practitioner working independently and with other health care professionals to assess, diagnose and treat the conditions of patients attending within a primary care setting. Provide expert professional advice to patients, carers and colleagues and ensure the maintenance of clinical excellence. To be involved in the provision of education and training to GP Registrars and other staff. To be professionally accountable and responsible for all elements of clinical practice in accordance with the GMC code of conduct ensuring the safety of patients and quality of their care is primary.
Please see attached job description, we are currently operating a total triage appointment system and seeing the patients face to face and providing visits. We also do telephone consultations and use AccuRX for contacting patients.
Duties will also include checking and signing repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, dealing with paperwork, referrals and electronic post in a timely manner, within the core working hours of 8am 6.30pm.
The post holder will also be required to cover some on call sessions.
About us Dinnington Group Practice is a large busy training practice with the main surgeries at Dinnington and Anston and a smaller branch surgery at Woodsetts. We are based in semi-rural South Rotherham; ideal for access to Sheffield, 10 minutes from M1 and A1.
We have circa 21,000 patients, 11 Partners and 6 Salaried GPs. Full Nursing team including ANPs.
We are one of four Practices who form the Rother Valley South PCN. We are supported by PCN staff such as GPs, ANPs, Clinical Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Physician Associates, a Physiotherapist and Social Prescriber.
We are a SystmOne Practice.

Job responsibilities Clinical responsibilities In accordance with the practice rota, as agreed, the post holder will make him/her-self available to undertake a variety of duties including surgery consultations, telephone consultations and queries, visiting patients at home, checking and signing/authorising repeat prescriptions and dealing with queries, paperwork and correspondence in a timely fashion.
Making professional, autonomous decisions in relation to presenting problems, whether self‑referred or referred from other health care workers within the organisation.
Assessing the health care needs of patients with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems.
Screening patients for disease risk factors and early signs of illness.
In consultation with patients and in line with current practice disease management protocols, developing care plans for health.
Providing counselling and health education.
Admitting or discharging patients to and from the caseload and referring to other care providers as appropriate.
Recording clear and contemporaneous consultation notes to agreed standards.
Compiling and issuing computer-generated acute and repeat prescriptions.
Prescribing in accordance with the practice prescribing formulary (or generically) whenever this is clinically appropriate.
The post holder will be required to visit patients during surgery time in an emergency if clinically indicated.
The post holder will undertake a fair % of On Call sessions per week as allocated on the practice rota and participate in the extended hours enhanced service.
The post holder will undertake fair share of home visiting sessions per week as allocated.
Person Specification Experience
Experience of working in a primary care environment
Experience of continued professional development
Experience of QOF and clinical audit
General understanding of the primary care contract
Full GMC registration
National Performers List registration (England), noting that confirmation on this list is adequate for DBS confirmation
Appropriate defence indemnity (MPS/MDU)
Evidence of current validation
Evidence of last appraisal
Eligibility to practice in the UK independently
Qualifications
Qualified GP
MRCGP
General Practitioner (Certificate of Completion of Training CCT)
Skills
Excellent communication skills (written and oral)
Clear, polite telephone manner
Competent in the use of Office and Outlook
