Primary Duties and Responsibilities The Scheduling Specialist II assists in the coordination of patient procedure/surgical schedules, collaborating in the management and scheduling of complex surgical procedures that may require multiple appointments, add-ons, and emergent procedures. The Specialist communicates between patients, physicians, multiple organization departments, and staff members, collaborates with Insurance Verification Specialists and assists with the authorization process, coordinates with patients for pre‑procedure diagnostic tests and clearances, creates patient itineraries and implements changes, provides clerical support and data entry, assists with the master schedule for procedures and coordinates case resource needs, and works in a high call volume environment. The Specialist also participates in continuous quality improvement processes, maintains knowledge of departmental SOPs, quality control, and preventive maintenance requirements, and maintains confidentiality.
Infusion Responsibilities Conducts patient check‑in and check‑out, identifies patient needs for supportive resources (caregivers, transportation), confirms and schedules additional appointments as needed.
Qualifications Education and Experience
High School Graduate or equivalent required
Minimum of two (2) years’ previous scheduling experience
Infusion: Minimum of three (3) years’ previous scheduling experience in a healthcare setting required
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Knowledge of proper body mechanics and safety measures
Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, plus healthcare database systems required
Strong knowledge of basic medical terminology preferred
Proven ability to interface with all customer levels (physicians, staff, vendors, patients, family members)
Full understanding of medical insurance procedures required
Basic keyboarding minimum 35 WPM preferred
