Position Overview North Carolina Central University (NCCU) is a historically Black university located in Durham, North Carolina. It is committed to excellence and transformation in education. The Division of Student Affairs fosters student growth and development, providing services and programs that expand students’ educational experiences and prepare them for local and global communities.
Primary Purpose of Position The Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and provides strategic leadership and vision for the Student Affairs Administration and Resources unit. It delivers strategic, operational, and administrative leadership across multiple Student Affairs units, advances divisional strategic planning, and ensures alignment between student engagement, leadership development, and institutional priorities.
Primary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Demonstrated ability to provide effective leadership, management, and oversight of complex student affairs units with a strong focus on student success, engagement, and leadership development.
Comprehensive knowledge of student affairs programs, services, policies, and compliance requirements within a higher education environment.
Strong project management, organizational, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, initiatives, and deadlines simultaneously.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey information, build collaborative relationships, and represent the Division effectively with various stakeholders.
Minimum Education / Experience
Earned Doctorate from an accredited institution in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs Administration, Educational Policy and Leadership Studies, or a closely related field.
Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible professional experience in higher education, with demonstrated leadership experience in student affairs, including supervision of professional staff, operational management, grant writing, and strategic planning at the departmental, divisional, or campus‑wide level.

Primary Responsibilities And Duties
Provide executive leadership and vision for Student Affairs Administration and Resources; supervise directors; mentor and develop staff; represent the Division on behalf of the Vice Chancellor; chair SAFAC; and foster a collaborative, student‑centered leadership culture.
Coordinate divisional priorities, organize workflows across multiple units, manage calendars and timelines for major initiatives, support committee structures, and ensure alignment of resources, personnel, and processes to meet operational and strategic goals.
Oversee day‑to‑day operations of assigned units; manage budgets and fiscal resources; ensure policy compliance; address operational challenges; support Residential Life operations; and maintain continuity of services in the absence of the Vice Chancellor.
Lead and advance divisional strategic planning initiatives; integrate student engagement and leadership development into long‑term goals; support data‑informed decision‑making; align divisional strategies with institutional priorities; and drive continuous improvement and innovation.
Performs other duties as assigned.
