Primary Function of Organizational Unit The Division of Student Affairs fosters student growth and development, offering a range of programs from Academic Opportunity for Student Success to Residential Life and Student Advocacy.

Primary Purpose of Position The Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (AoVC) reports directly to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs, providing strategic leadership and vision for the Student Affairs Administration and Resources unit. The role offers oversight of multiple units, ensures alignment with institutional priorities, chairs the Student Activity Fee Allocation Committee, and serves as a de‑facto Chief of Staff for the Division.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Demonstrated effective leadership, management, and oversight of complex student affairs units focused on student success, engagement, and leadership development.

Comprehensive knowledge of student affairs programs, services, policies, and compliance requirements within a higher education environment.

Strong project management, organizational, and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, clearly conveying information and building collaborative relationships with stakeholders.

Earned Doctorate from an accredited institution in Higher Education Administration, Student Affairs Administration, Educational Policy and Leadership Studies, or a closely related field.

Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible professional experience in higher education, including supervision of professional staff, operational management, grant writing, and strategic planning at departmental, divisional, or campus‑wide levels.

Primary Responsibilities and Duties Function Leadership

Provides executive leadership and vision for Student Affairs Administration and Resources; supervises directors; mentors and develops staff; represents the Division on behalf of the Vice Chancellor; chairs SAFAC; and fosters a collaborative, student‑centered leadership culture.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Function Planning and Organizing Work

Coordinates divisional priorities, organizes workflows across units, manages calendars and timelines for major initiatives, supports committee structures, and ensures alignment of resources and processes to meet operational and strategic goals.

Function Operations Management

Oversees day‑to‑day operations of assigned units; manages budgets and fiscal resources; ensures policy compliance; addresses operational challenges; supports Residential Life operations; and maintains continuity of services in the absence of the Vice Chancellor.

Function Strategic Planning

Leads and advances divisional strategic planning initiatives; integrates student engagement and leadership development into long‑term goals; supports data‑driven decision making; aligns divisional strategies with institutional priorities; and drives continuous improvement and innovation.
