About the Company RMR Mechanical is a leading industrial and mechanical contractor. We work in steel, pulp and paper, power, and all process industries. We have performed over 1300 projects since 2002. We are authorized to perform repair of pressure vessels (NBIC R Stamp), manufacture pressure vessels (ASME U Stamp), manufacture and assemble power boilers (ASME S Stamp); and authorized to register boilers and pressure vessels with the National Board NB. Projects range from $5,000 emergencies to equipment retrofits and new construction in excess of $25,000,000.
About the Role We are seeking a detail-oriented and driven
Assistant Controller
to support our finance and accounting operations. This role will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, overseeing payroll processes, and strengthening internal controls. As part of a construction company that is in the process of rebuilding and positioning for growth, the Assistant Controller will play a critical role in improving processes, supporting decision-making, and partnering with leadership to ensure financial stability.

Key Responsibilities Support the month-end and year-end close process, ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting. Oversee daily accounting functions including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and bank reconciliations. Manage payroll processing and compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. Prepare financial statements, management reports, and project/job cost analysis for leadership review. Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis to support business planning. Strengthen accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls to improve efficiency and safeguard company assets. Partner with Operations and Project Management to support project accounting and cost tracking. Assist with audits, tax filings, and external reporting requirements. Provide financial analysis and recommendations to senior management as needed. Support the President and CFO in special projects and initiatives related to business growth and turnaround.
Qualifications Bachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (required). Minimum of
8 years of progressive accounting/finance experience . Strong knowledge of GAAP and payroll compliance. Experience in the
construction or project-based industry preferred . Advanced proficiency with accounting software and Excel. Experience in Sage a plus Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills with the ability to present financial data clearly. CPA or CPA-track preferred but not required.
