KIPP Chicago
School Operations Leader
The School Operations Leader (SOL) plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth, efficient, and mission‑aligned functioning of our K‑8 campus.
The SOL’s primary responsibility is to successfully execute on our two top priorities: enrollment and attendance.
They design, implement, and maintain strong operational systems that free principals and teachers to focus on high‑quality instruction and student learning while fostering a supportive and well‑organized school environment.
The SOL values structure, embraces innovation, and seeks continuous improvement, consistently looking for ways to enhance effectiveness, streamline processes, and manage resources wisely.
The SOL collaborates closely with school leadership, teachers, and the KIPP Chicago School Support Team to ensure seamless day‑to‑day operations and reports directly to the support team.
Regular and dependable on‑site attendance is essential.
Responsibilities
Student Enrollment: Manage the school’s annual effort to enroll new students—including strategic planning, canvassing (including nights and weekends), waitlist management, and registrations—and re‑register current students each spring/summer.
Attendance: Manage the school’s effort to reach 96% average daily attendance, including developing daily attendance call plans, data entry, analysis, and implementing incentives for students, families, and staff to hit daily, weekly, monthly, and quarterly goals.
Leadership: Serve as a critical member of the K‑8 leadership team, assisting principals and assistant principals in achieving ambitious academic outcomes; manage and lead a team to execute on KIPP Chicago’s priorities; host weekly alignment meetings.
Finance & Purchasing: Assist Directors of Operations, principals, and the regional operations team in overseeing school finances—creating the discretionary budget, managing purchasing, monitoring spending, and ensuring adherence to fiscal procedures.
Facilities: Oversee the school’s physical plant—both inside and out—ensuring it is in good repair and supervising engineers and custodians.
Compliance: Ensure compliance with health and safety laws, teacher licensure and fingerprinting, city and state education mandates, and all federal and state workplace regulations for the campus.
Technology: Oversee purchasing and maintenance of student and teacher computing devices and other hardware and software for the campus.
Student Information and Reporting: Manage the student information system, generate progress reports and report cards, and coordinate with the support team on data analysis and reporting.
Logistics: Plan and coordinate logistics for parent meetings, special events, and field lessons.
Human Resources: Coordinate with the support team to ensure that school‑based employees receive timely and accurate payroll and benefits.
