Job Description Lockheed Martin is seeking a highly experienced Software Engineer to design, develop, and implement a modern software framework for the F‑35 Ground Systems Mission Planning Environment (MPE) project. The MPE is a critical component of the F‑35 program, enabling all ground‑based operations and playing a vital role in the successful execution of missions and overall operation of the aircraft.

As a Senior member of the F‑35 Ground Systems MPE Software team, the successful candidate will guide a team of Software Engineers in the design and development of a new contract focused on modernizing the Mission Planning product and tools. This Senior role requires a deep understanding of software architecture, a strong technical vision, and the ability to drive the successful implementation of this complex project.

The successful candidate will assume a technical senior software role, responsible for leading the software development of a microservices container‑orchestrated (Kubernetes) architecture in a DevOps environment. As a Staff Software Engineer, they will lead the Mission Planning Environment team through the full development lifecycle, ensuring continuity and effective communication of software strategy, design, and implementation.

The candidate’s responsibilities include actively contributing to the development of new concepts, possessing full knowledge of industry and company practices, and demonstrating expertise in the field and related disciplines. They will develop innovative solutions to complex problems that align with organizational objectives, work without direction to guide major projects to completion, and may function in a leadership role, guiding teams and projects to achieve organizational goals.

The candidate will enforce strong software architectural principles, including modularity, flexibility, and extensibility, and develop next‑generation software. They will participate in end‑to‑end integration activities, analyze user requirements, and implement algorithms to meet system performance and functional standards.

Key qualifications include extensive practical experience in software development, strong knowledge of software design principles and architecture styles, excellent coding and technical skills, and strong communication, problem‑solving, and leadership abilities. The candidate will oversee software development teams, recommend new technologies and processes, and ensure quality control of all developed and modified software.

Requirements

Experienced Software Engineer with sound technical knowledge.

Programming Experience: OOP programming required.

Desired Skills: Desktop application development, C#, C++, or Java, hardware interface experience, full‑stack web development, and agile methodology experience.
