Rail Analyst Lead

Rail Analyst Lead
for an international chemical company recognized for its excellence in supply chain and logistics operations. This position offers the opportunity to lead a dedicated team, drive rail logistics performance, and collaborate with key stakeholders across the organization. The
Rail Analyst Lead
will be instrumental in optimizing transportation strategies, improving service reliability, and enhancing cost efficiency across domestic and international rail networks.
Base pay range $105,000.00/yr – $115,000.00/yr
Responsibilities
Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 2–4 rail and logistics professionals, providing day-to-day operational oversight and performance management.
Manage end-to-end rail transportation planning and execution for inbound and outbound shipments.
Serve as the primary contact for 3PL providers, rail carriers, and external logistics partners.
Monitor and analyze rail performance metrics such as OTIF, dwell time, demurrage, and service reliability.
Identify cost-saving opportunities by evaluating freight spend, routing strategies, and carrier contracts.
Oversee issue resolution related to service disruptions, claims, and compliance concerns.
Collaborate with cross‑functional departments including Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Procurement, and Sales.
Support contract negotiations, RFPs, and carrier reviews in alignment with procurement strategies.
Ensure compliance with DOT, FRA, AAR, and hazardous materials regulations.
Develop, maintain, and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and best practices.
Prepare and present operational reports, performance metrics, and forecasts to senior leadership.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Transportation, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in rail logistics or transportation, preferably within a 3PL or industrial environment.
Proven leadership experience managing logistics or transportation teams.
Hands‑on experience working with third‑party logistics (3PL) providers.
Background in chemical, petrochemical, oil & gas, or energy sectors preferred.
In‑depth understanding of rail operations, including railcar types, demurrage, leasing, and accessorial charges.
Proficiency with ERP systems (SAP preferred), TMS platforms, and advanced Excel or reporting tools.
Strong analytical and decision‑making abilities with a focus on continuous improvement.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
Knowledge of hazardous materials handling and international logistics operations a plus.
