Role Overview The Head of Middle Mile will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing the middle-mile transportation network, ensuring efficient movement of freight from manufacturing site to ports, distribution centres, cross-docks, and fulfilment hubs. This is a senior leadership role within a fast-growing 3PL, focused on operational excellence, cost control, carrier performance, and cross-border coordination, particularly with Mandarin-speaking partners and stakeholders.
This role will play a critical part in scaling network capacity, improving service levels, and driving continuous improvement across domestic and international middle-mile operations.
Key Responsibilities
Own and lead the middle-mile strategy, execution, and performance across the 3PL network
Manage transportation flows between ports, cross-docks, and distribution centres, ensuring on-time, cost-effective execution
Build and manage relationships with domestic and international carriers, drayage providers, and linehaul partners
Act as a key liaison with Mandarin-speaking partners, suppliers, and overseas operations to ensure seamless communication and execution
Develop and track KPIs related to cost per mile, on-time performance, capacity utilization, and service reliability
Drive continuous improvement initiatives focused on network optimization, route efficiency, and cost reduction
Oversee carrier procurement, rate negotiations, contract compliance, and performance management
Partner cross-functionally with warehousing, last-mile, customer success, finance, and technology teams
Support network expansion, peak planning, and capacity planning initiatives
Lead, mentor, and develop middle-mile operations and transportation teams
Ensure compliance with all DOT, safety, and regulatory requirements
Qualifications & Experience
8+ years of experience in transportation, logistics, or supply chain operations, preferably within a 3PL environment
Proven experience leading middle-mile, linehaul, or regional transportation operations at scale
Fluent in Mandarin and English (spoken and written) – required
Strong understanding of domestic and international freight movement, including port operations and drayage
Experience negotiating carrier contracts and managing transportation budgets
Data-driven mindset with experience using TMS platforms, dashboards, and performance metrics
Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage change, and scale operations in a high-growth environment
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills across cultures and regions
Preferred Experience
Experience supporting cross-border or Asia–US logistics operations
Background in network design, transportation engineering, or optimization
Exposure to e-commerce or high-volume distribution networks
