HR Leave Coordinator - City of New York
Position is open only to City of New York employees serving in the permanent civil service title of Clerical Associate.
The FDNY is the largest Fire Department in the United States and is recognized as the world's busiest and most highly skilled emergency response agency. Its main goal is to provide fire protection, emergency medical care, and other critical public safety services to residents and visitors in the five boroughs. FDNY members are sworn to serve and protect life and property and the department works to continually educate the public in fire, life safety, and disaster preparedness, along with enforcing public safety codes.
Responsibilities
Reviewing and processing leave requests, including FMLA, Paid Family Leave (PFL), Paid Parental Leave (PPL), Personal Leave, and Child Care Leave.
Ensuring compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), Workers’ Compensation, and other applicable laws, rules, and regulations.
Verifying leave eligibility based on City policies, employees' start dates and leave entitlements.
Distributing required forms and sending leave‑related correspondence.
Monitoring and processing Section 71/73 actions.
Preparing metrics and reports related to leave requests and actions.
Performing other related human resources functions as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications A four‑year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and one year of satisfactory clerical experience.
Keyboard familiarity with the ability to type at a minimum of 100 key strokes (20 words) per minute.
Preferred Skills
At least 3 years of related work experience within NYC government.
Knowledge of City, State, and Federal regulations governing extended leaves, including FMLA, childcare, and medical leave.
Excellent organizational, analytical, and critical thinking skills.
Strong communication skills, including verbal, written, and presentation abilities.
Demonstrated customer service skills and the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels.
Familiarity with CityTime, Payroll Management System (PMS), City Human Resources Management System (CHRMS), and NYCAPS.
