Job Description
The Tax Manager, Core Tax Services is responsible for advising clients on the tax implications of their business objectives, evaluating and selecting alternative actions to lessen tax burden and compliance costs, and acting as the primary client contact for complex tax issues. The Manager applies deep tax knowledge to identify risks, communicate tax policy changes, and support marketing, networking, and business development activities.
Responsibilities
Ensure client compliance with all applicable authorities while minimizing tax and reporting burdens.
Lead tax compliance reviews, resolve issues with clients, and involve specialists when needed.
Plan and manage the tax engagement process, including budgeting, staffing, time tracking, billing, and collection.
Maintain client relationships and expectations, providing timely written tax advice.
Conduct timely tax research, frame issues concisely and report findings.
Apply ASC 740 (FAS 109 and FIN 48) policies, prepare tax accruals, and communicate uncertain tax positions.
Provide tax consulting to maximize client benefits, consider CTS and STS specialties, and serve as a technical resource.
Develop and deep‑enough technical knowledge in one or more tax areas (individual, corporate, state/local, transfer pricing, etc.) and, when required, lead internal CPE training.
Create and refine strategies to improve client outcomes, firm processes, or employee practice.
Supervise associates and senior associates: review work, provide feedback, train on software tools, and manage workload.
Education
Bachelor’s degree required (Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics preferred).
Master’s in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
Experience
Five (5) or more years of relevant tax experience (public accounting, private industry, or consulting).
Prior supervisory experience required.
Industry expertise in one or more tax specialties preferred.
License / Certifications
CPA, Attorney (U.S. jurisdiction), or IRS Enrolled Agent (EA) required.
Other relevant professional degrees or certifications preferred.
Technical Skills
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance software.

Strong analytical, research, and critical‑thinking skills.
Effective delegation and team management.
Executive presence; ability to act as primary client contact.
Ability to develop, maintain, and grow client relationships.
Salary Ranges
California: $112,000 – $150,000
Colorado: $104,500 – $115,500
Illinois: $105,000 – $130,000
Maryland: $113,000 – $120,000
Massachusetts: $120,000 – $127,000
Minnesota: $90,000 – $120,000
New Jersey: $115,000 – $140,000
NYC/Long Island/Westchester: $125,000 – $160,000
Washington: $107,400 – $126,900
Washington DC: $120,000 – $140,000
