The Electrical Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive electrical cost estimates for a wide range of construction projects. This role supports McDonald Electricals’ preconstruction efforts by analyzing drawings and specifications, collaborating with internal teams and external partners, and developing detailed budgets that align with project scope, schedule, and client expectations. Estimators at all levels contribute to a collaborative, high-performance estimating team and uphold McDonald Electricals’ commitment to quality, integrity, and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

Prepare detailed electrical estimates, including labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor costs, for projects of varying size and complexity.

Analyze construction drawings, specifications, and other contract documents to develop accurate takeoffs and pricing.

Conceptualize and develop preliminary budgets and conceptual estimates with limited or incomplete design information.

Participate in pre-bid walkthroughs, site visits, and client meetings as required.

Assist in scope review to identify risks, exclusions, assumptions, and value-engineering opportunities.

Solicit, obtain, and evaluate pricing from vendors and subcontractors.

Analyze quotations to ensure scope coverage, accuracy, and competitiveness.

Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and suppliers to support accurate and timely pricing.

Consult with clients, vendors, project managers, engineers, and internal departments to resolve issues and clarify scope.

Participate in internal kickoff meetings to transition awarded projects from estimating to operations.

Communicate estimate details, assumptions, and risks clearly to the Chief Estimator and project stakeholders.

Systems & Tools

Become proficient in McDonald Electricals estimating software (Conest) and related tools.

Utilize Microsoft Word, Excel, and other software to prepare estimate documentation, bid summaries, and reports.

Maintain organized and accurate estimating files in accordance with company standards.

Professional & Team Contributions

Perform additional duties and special assignments as directed by the Chief Estimator.

Maintain a positive, collaborative, and professional working environment.

Support continuous improvement efforts within the estimating department, including process enhancements and best practices.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Proficiency with computers and business software, including Microsoft Word and Excel.

Ability to learn and effectively use estimating software (Conest experience preferred but not required).

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work independently while also contributing effectively in a team environment.

Attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple deadlines.

Electrical construction knowledge preferred, but not required for junior-level candidates.
