Matching People to Purpose in Renewable Energy
Director of Engineering, Electrical Distribution Equipment (Panelboards, Switchboards, Custom Power Systems)
✈️ 30–40% travel to Bartlesville, OK manufacturing facility
Family‑owned, legacy industrial manufacturer with explosive customer demand
Company Snapshot My client is a U.S. manufacturer with a 75+ year legacy of designing and building custom panelboards, switchboards, and power distribution equipment engineered to customer specifications and built to stringent UL/NEMA standards. Equipment is made in the USA with short lead times, flexible configurations, and a reputation for reliability and service.
Over the past few years the business has expanded beyond its regional roots, shipping to all 50 states, winning new customers across healthcare, data centers, renewables, telecom, and e‑mobility infrastructure, and rapidly scaling both engineering and manufacturing. The volume and complexity of orders are now outpacing current engineering capacity, creating the need for true technical leadership at the next level.
The Role As Director of Engineering, you will be the company’s top technical leader, responsible for the strategy and execution of both Electrical and Mechanical Engineering functions across panelboards, switchboards, and custom power distribution system, from feasibility and design through compliance and manufacturing release.
The organization already has momentum; the opportunity is to shape how they meet demand and outcompete based on engineering excellence.
Accountabilities
Technical decision authority on complex custom builds
Engineering standards for UL/NEMA compliance, safety, and manufacturability
Scaling engineering throughput to match the sales pipeline
Coaching and developing engineering managers in both disciplines
Tight coordination with manufacturing, project management, and customers
What You’ll Own
Lead and grow cross‑disciplinary engineering teams
Set technical direction for panelboard, switchboard, and distribution system design
Drive design for performance, reliability, cost, serviceability, and compliance
Partner with manufacturing leadership to ensure designs are buildable at scale
Establish consistent engineering process, documentation standards, and quality gates
Qualifications
Deep custom power distribution equipment experience (panelboards, switchboards, switchgear, EVSE, custom engineered power distribution systems)
15+ years in engineering in power distribution OEMs
7+ years leading engineering teams
Strong track record of owning technical decisions on engineered products
Bachelor’s in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering (Advanced degree / PE a plus)
Comfortable onsite in NJ + regular travel to OK
Not a fit: those with EPC‑only, MEP design, consulting, or general manufacturing without direct power distribution equipment backgrounds.
