Position Summary The Scrum Master is responsible for supporting Agile application teams to deliver high-quality software in a regulated, enterprise environment. This role partners closely with product owners, developers, QA, and business stakeholders to ensure Agile best practices are followed, delivery is predictable, and dependencies are managed effectively. A strong understanding of
mainframe-based application environments
is required to support teams working on core enterprise systems.
Key Responsibilities Serve as Scrum Master for one or more application development teams, facilitating Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, daily stand-ups, backlog refinement, reviews, and retrospectives. Guide teams in applying Scrum and Agile principles to
mainframe and distributed application development . Partner with product owners to ensure user stories are well-defined, prioritized, and ready for development. Manage application delivery cycles, releases, dependencies, and cross-team coordination. Track and report Agile metrics such as velocity, burn-downs, capacity, and impediments. Identify, escalate, and help remove blockers that impact delivery or team effectiveness. Support continuous improvement by coaching teams on Agile maturity and delivery flow. Coordinate closely with QA, release management, and downstream consumers to support testing, deployment, and release readiness. Mainframe & Application Environment Focus Support Agile teams working in
mainframe environments
(e.g., COBOL, DB2, CICS, JCL, batch processing). Understand mainframe application lifecycles, release constraints, and dependencies with upstream and downstream systems. Assist teams in managing work that spans both mainframe and modern distributed platforms. Ensure Agile practices align with mainframe delivery timelines, batch schedules, and enterprise change controls. Financial & Regulatory Environment Operate effectively within regulated environments, supporting required documentation, audits, and compliance checkpoints. Coordinate delivery activities with awareness of financial systems, data sensitivity, and regulatory controls. Support risk assessments, release approvals, and audit-related documentation as required
Qualifications 35 years of experience as a Scrum Master or Agile Project Manager supporting application development teams. Strong experience or working knowledge of
mainframe application environments . Experience working in financial services or other highly regulated industries. Solid understanding of the application development lifecycle and Agile delivery practices. Proficiency with Agile tools such as Jira, Confluence, or similar platforms. Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders. Preferred Qualifications Scrum or Agile certifications (CSM, PSM, SAFe Scrum Master). Experience working in scaled or multi-team Agile environments. Background in business analysis or project management.
