Job Description Job Description Job Summary Overview: The Controls Systems Technician II is a mid-level technician responsible for the installation, startup, calibration, and troubleshooting of building automation systems (BAS) and HVAC control systems. This role requires a solid understanding of control theory, system integration, and HVAC system operation. The Technician II works with limited supervision, assists with project commissioning, and may provide guidance to entry-level technicians. Responsibilities: Install, terminate, and label low-voltage control wiring per project specifications and electrical codes. · Mount, wire, and configure control panels, field devices, and sensors. · Program, download, and verify controller configuration and point mapping for BACnet or Modbus devices. · Conduct functional performance testing, identify sequence issues, and correct field discrepancies. · Perform system startup and commissioning in collaboration with the project engineer or senior technician. · Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and communication issues within BAS networks. · Maintain detailed as-built documentation, including markups to drawings and point lists. · Assist in developing and verifying sequences of operation for HVAC systems such as VAVs, AHUs, RTUs, boilers, and chillers. · Support integration of BAS with third-party systems (lighting, access, metering). · Provide limited training and direction to Technician I personnel. · Ensure all work adheres to safety standards, project schedules, and company quality expectations. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: · Strong working knowledge of HVAC systems, control theory, and DDC principles. · Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and control drawings accurately. · Intermediate understanding of BACnet, Modbus, or LonWorks communication protocols. · Proficient in use of control software tools, interface devices, and commissioning utilities. · Skilled in diagnosing and repairing BAS-related electrical and communication faults. · Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects with minimal supervision. · Effective written and verbal communication with project teams and customers. · Strong organizational and documentation skills. · Familiarity with IT concepts (IP addressing, networking basics, routers/switches) preferred. Education and Qualifications: (Required and/or preferred) · High school diploma or GED required. · Associate degree or technical certification preferred. · Minimum 2–5 years of experience in HVAC controls installation, commissioning, or service. · Must possess a valid driver’s license and maintain insurability under company policy. Field of Study: · HVAC, Electrical Technology, Mechatronics, or Building Automation Certifications and Licenses: · OSHA 10-hour Construction Safety certification required. · EPA Section 608 certification preferred. · Manufacturer-level BAS training (e.g., Johnson Controls, Honeywell, Tridium Niagara, Siemens, Distech, etc.) highly desirable. · NICET certification in Controls or Electrical preferred. Work Environment and Physical Demands: · Work performed primarily at customer sites, construction environments, and mechanical spaces. · Frequent lifting of up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, and standing for extended periods. · Regular exposure to noise, heat, confined spaces, and mechanical/electrical hazards. · May be required to work evenings or weekends during critical project phases. · Must be willing to travel locally and regionally to various project sites
