Requirements Job Overview The Associate Vice President for Compliance and Ethics and Chief Compliance Officer of Georgetown University coordinates, monitors, and provides general oversight of the University's compliance assurance activities, including compliance both with internal policies/procedures and with external requirements imposed by law, regulation, contracts and/or grant requirements. The AVP provides leadership to ensure an effective compliance program, characterized by well-articulated policies and procedures, efficient mechanisms for ensuring that the University meets compliance obligations and responds appropriately to problems, and a culture of ethics and compliance throughout the University. The AVP leads the Office of Compliance and Ethics and works in conjunction with the individuals with responsibility for compliance in various departments across the University.
Duties Include But Are Not Limited To
Oversees the day-to-day operations of the compliance program to enhance a culture of compliance and ethical behavior
Ensures the existence of effective channels for the reporting of compliance concerns, including maintaining hotline for reporting concerns
Provides oversight, leadership and advice on conflict of interest matters and educates the University community about ethical decision-making and University policies related to ethical conduct
Monitors the performance of the compliance program and related activities on a continuing basis, taking appropriate steps to improve its effectiveness
Work Interactions This position reports directly to the Vice President & General Counsel and to the Audit Committee of the Board of Directors. This position requires excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills and an ability to build strong relationships of mutual trust and respect with faculty and staff. This position interfaces with all University officers and employees as well as with the University Board and external consultants.
Requirements And Qualifications Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of ten years of progressively responsible experience in legal, compliance, and/or audit roles in higher education or an organization of equal complexity
Proven experience designing, implementing, and enhancing compliance programs, with the judgment to assess risk, promote ethical conduct, and support institutional accountability
Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and diplomatic skills, with the ability to build constructive relationships of trust and collaboration with faculty, staff, and administrative leaders across a decentralized environment
Ability to work effectively with senior University officers, the Board of Directors, and external partners, exercising discretion, sound judgment, and a high degree of professionalism in all interactions
Demonstrated capacity to navigate complex issues, manage multiple priorities, and work both independently and in collaboration with cross-functional teams in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications
JD or equivalent advanced credential
Experience within a higher education or research institution
Deep knowledge of regulatory frameworks governing academic institutions and sponsored research

Pay Range The projected salary or hourly pay range for this position which represents the full range of anticipated compensation is:
$167,633.00 - $327,721.83
Compensation is determined by a number of factors including, but not limited to, the candidate's individual qualifications, experience, education, skills, and certifications, as well as the University's business needs and external factors.
