Summary The RN in Interventional Radiology provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures such as angiography, biopsies, drain placements, vascular access procedures, embolizations, and other minimally invasive image‑guided procedures. They work closely with radiologists, technologists, and other interdisciplinary team members.

Qualifications

English language proficiency (basic written and spoken English).

Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ACEN or CCNE) or equivalent as per VA Handbook 5005 – Appendix G6.

State license: active, unrestricted registration as a registered nurse in a U.S. State, Territory, or Commonwealth. Alternates for foreign‑educated nurses as described in the standard.

Graduates of foreign nursing schools may require a formal equivalency validation.

Preference: BSN with at least 5 years of critical care experience.

Physical requirements: visual acuity, keen hearing, clear speech, manual dexterity; long periods of walking/standing, lifting/training up to 45 lbs.

Exposure to infected or combative patients; proficiency with protective clothing, lead aprons, etc.

Must complete annual employee health requirements; may be required to drive for home‑setting care.

Duties

Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic interventional radiology procedures.

Perform pre‑procedure assessments, patient education, and ensure informed consent.

Monitor patients during procedures, administer moderate sedation, maintain sterile technique, and manage emergency responses.

Document all aspects of care in the electronic health record (e.g., CPRS).

Collaborate with radiologists, technologists, and the healthcare team to ensure safe and patient‑centered care.

Participate in quality improvement initiatives, infection control practices, and continuing education for interventional radiology nursing.

May participate in on‑call rotations and respond to urgent or emergent IR procedures.

Pay: Competitive salary with regular increases and performance awards. PTO: 50 days per year (26 days annual leave, 13 days sick leave, 11 paid federal holidays). Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5‑year vesting) and federal 401(k) with up to 5% contributions by VA. Insurance: Federal health, vision, dental, life, long‑term care. Licensure: One full and unrestricted license from any U.S. state or territory. Work schedule: 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., with on‑call commitments. Telework: Not available. Virtual: Not a virtual position.

Salary & Benefits Base Pay Range: $81,494 – $155,459 per year. Pay may vary based on experience and qualifications.
