Job Title: Executive Director (2026) Position Location: Peoria, Illinois Full-time In-person Reports To: Board of Directors

Position Overview The Executive Director (ED) will focus on strategic, high-level, and external responsibilities and direct staff in the tactical, day‑to‑day delivery and execution of the programs that fulfill the organization’s mission. The ED is the chief executive, with broad oversight and latitude as guided by the board of directors.

Strategic Leadership and Governance

Leads the development and implementation of the organization’s strategic plan to ensure its mission is fulfilled through programs, operations, and community outreach.

Provides high‑level direction and support to all department heads, including fundraising, marketing, and programs.

Acts as the primary liaison to the Board of Directors, keeping them informed of organizational performance, financial health, and strategic opportunities.

Works with the board to enhance its effectiveness by assisting in the recruitment, orientation, and engagement of new members.

Fundraising and Financial Oversight

Maintains the fiscal integrity of the organization, overseeing the annual budget process and ensuring maximum resource utilization and compliance with all financial regulations.

Develops and executes a diversified, multi‑pronged fundraising strategy, including cultivation of major donors, grant writing, corporate sponsorships, and events. GRANT WRITING IS ESSENTIAL

Serves as a passionate and persuasive public‑facing fundraiser, securing the financial resources necessary to achieve strategic goals.

Organizational Management and Team Leadership

Oversee all day‑to‑day operations, ensuring effective and efficient processes across all departments.

Manages, coaches, and mentors a high‑performing staff, fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and mission‑driven workplace culture.

Ensures that human resources policies and practices are aligned with sector standards, promoting employee professional development and retention.

Implement systems for clear internal communication, decision‑making, and project accountability.

Programmatic Oversight and Impact Oversee the design, delivery, and evaluation of all community development programs and services.

Uses data and community feedback to continuously measure the impact and quality of programs, making data‑informed adjustments to maximize effectiveness.

Stays informed of trends and developments in the field to ensure the organization remains innovative and responsive to community needs.

Ensure staff performing financial coaching sets goals, creates actionable plans, stays informed on best practices, serves as an advocate for financial education and represents the organization at events.

External Relations and Community Engagement

Serves as the chief spokesperson and public face of the organization, representing it at events, conferences, and with the media.

Builds and nurtures relationships with a wide range of community stakeholders, including residents, local businesses, government officials, and other non‑profits.

Leads community outreach initiatives to ensure the organization’s work is grounded in and responsive to the needs of the community.

Day‑to‑day Responsibilities involve a combination of long‑term vision and crisis management, requiring a wide‑ranging skill set.

Key Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and oversee financial wellness programs, workshops, and outreach activities.

Facilitate engaging presentations on budgeting, credit building, home ownership, banking, investments, and taxes.

Provide individualized financial coaching to help participants set goals and create actionable plans.

Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, schools, and local partners to expand program reach.

Create culturally responsive educational materials that are clear, accessible, and relevant to participants.

Collect and track program data to measure impact, prepare reports, and recommend improvements.

Represent the organization at community events and serve as an advocate for financial literacy.

Stay informed on best practices, resources, and emerging issues in personal finance and financial education.

Travel as needed for professional and organizational development.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business, or related field (equivalent experience considered).

5–7 years of experience in financial education, counseling, or related work in a nonprofit or community setting.

Strong knowledge of budgeting, credit building, banking, investments, home ownership, and taxes.

Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial topics in a clear and relatable way.

Proven ability to engage audiences through public speaking, group facilitation, and community outreach.

Highly organized with strong planning, time management, and follow‑through skills.

Culturally competent and committed to working with diverse and underserved communities.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and data tracking tools.

Public Speaking & Facilitation: Confident, engaging, and able to adapt to different audiences.

Communication: Strong written and verbal skills for outreach, education, and reporting.

Collaboration: Experience working with partners, volunteers, and community stakeholders.

Compensation & Benefits

Salary commensurate with experience. Range $90,000 – $135,000
