Sr. Vocational Counselor (Supervisor)
Salary Range:
$57,000 - $60,000
Schedule:
Hybrid post 90-days
Program Overview:
The Barbara Kleinman Men’s Shelter is a 200-bed, 24/7 emergency shelter for homeless men. The program will serve both individuals diagnosed with mental illness and/or substance use disorders and individuals who are employed/seeking employment. Our comprehensive services include case management, individual and group counseling, mental health care and primary medical care, recreational activities, occupational therapy, employment services and job readiness services, and housing placement assistance.
Responsibilities Working closely with the site Program Director but under the supervision of the Workforce Development Sr. Director, the Senior Vocational Counselor (Supervisor) will manage the Vocational Counselor and Job Developer and work alongside the Trainer, carry full caseload as well as train and onboard new staff. The responsibilities include:
Managing a full caseload and placing clients into jobs that result in achievement of job placement and retention milestone goals.
Onboarding and training new staff on policies and procedures including (but not limited to) intake, assessment, employment plans, placement and retention strategies.
Providing direct support and guidance to new staff on vocational counseling and case management.
Assessing client vocational skills and limitations and develop highly customized employment plans for each client.
Completing all client documentation, including weekly and monthly case notes that record services provided and outstanding issues to be addressed.
Providing retention support including regular in-person or phone/email contact and collecting milestone documentation.
Entering client information and progress into various databases including Salesforce, and others as required.
Provide assistance to management team as needed.
Qualifications The ideal candidate will meet the following qualifications:
HS Diploma with a minimum of 7+ years of experience, or a Bachelor’s degree strongly preferred in mental health, vocational counseling, social work or related field.
3-5 years of supervisory experience.
Experience working with individuals with serious mental illness or similar populations is essential.
Excellent communication skills and strong interpersonal skills; strong attention to detail.
Ability to produce clear and accurate case notes.
Flexibility in working evenings or weekends as program necessitates.
