  • Preferred Schedule: 7 on / 7 off (Monday to Sunday)
  • Call Ratio: 1:3
  • Call Type: In-House
  • Call Response Time: 20 minutes
  • EMR: Cerner
Work ScheduleMonday - Thursday
  • 7:00 AM - 4:30 PM: Onsite (includes CV Surgery daily meeting)
  • 4:30 PM onward: Call (return to hotel allowed; must be available for call-back)
Friday
  • 7:00 AM - 5:00 PM: Onsite
  • 5:00 PM onward: Call
Saturday - Sunday
  • 24-hour call coverage
  • Rounding begins at 6:00 AM ( 4 hours onsite)
  • Rounding nurse available 5:00 AM - 5:00 PM to assist with triage
ICU and Night Call
  • ICU call 1-2 nights per week (5:00 PM - 7:00 AM)
  • Weekday call: 4:30 PM - 6:00 AM
  • Weekend call: 5:00 PM - 5:00 AM
  • Some overlap with night PA (Tues-Fri 8:00 PM - 6:00 AM)
Clinical Scope
  • Primary Duties:
  • Rounding on ICU and stepdown patients
  • Consults and discharges
  • Medical management of inpatients
  • Call coverage for inpatient issues, ER consults, and transfers
  • Procedures:
  • Endoscopic Vein Harvesting (EVH with Hemapro 2) - required
  • Some open vein harvests for fem-pop procedures
  • OR first assist (once oriented to team and routines)
  • Call Responsibilities:
  • Includes patient management, ER consults, surgical emergencies
  • May include OR emergencies on weekends Clinical Focus Areas
    • Cardiac: CABG, valve replacements, aortic dissections
    • Thoracic: Robotic and VATS procedures, thoracotomies (no esophageal cases)
    • Vascular: Carotid endarterectomy, AAA repair, peripheral revascularizations
    • Heart Failure: LVAD, ECMO, Impella
    Requirements
    • Licensure: Active Indiana license or IMLC - required
    • Certifications:
    • Board Certification - required
    • ACLS and BLS - required
  • Experience:
  • Fellowship required
  • NP or PA with cardiothoracic surgery experience
  • PA must have performed approximately 500 EVH cases over 10 years
  • Tech: Must bring own laptop for call coverage Additional Notes
    • Call and weekend coverage are essential components of the role
    • Team does not support a 10-on/10-off schedule
    • Some flexibility in weekday shifts (5x8s or 4x10s)
    • Collaborative team environment with support from rounding nurses, surgeons, and night PAs
