Financial Analyst #483 – United States Senate Sergeant at Arms

Overview The Senate Sergeant at Arms (SAA) is seeking a Financial Analyst to join the Strategic Finance & Planning team. The role focuses on transforming financial data into strategic insights, supporting long‑term planning, budget execution, and financial reporting for the SAA’s core operations.

Key Accountabilities / Essential Job Duties

Develop and maintain dynamic financial models for business planning, analysis, and strategic decision‑making.

Consolidate, clean, and model data from multiple systems to support accurate financial and operational reporting.

Ensure data integrity and confidentiality by managing report documentation and user access in compliance with data governance policies.

Monitor key performance indicators, analyze variances, and deliver insights on trends and root causes through automated reporting tools.

Prepare and present monthly and quarterly financial reports, including budget variance analysis and strategic recommendations for leadership.

Support annual budgeting and long‑term financial planning by collaborating with department leaders and providing financial guidance aligned with organizational goals.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Education Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration.

Required Work Experience

At least 5 years of professional experience in financial analysis, budgeting/forecasting reporting, DAX, or BI tools.

Required Special Skills / Knowledge

Proficiency in Excel and experience with financial management systems and disparate data structures.

Experience working with human capital data and using reporting tools to create meaningful reports and projections.

Strong presentation skills – able to communicate financial data clearly and effectively to stakeholders at various levels, both in writing and verbally.

Ability to obtain CFA/FPAC certification within the first three years of employment.

Knowledge of public‑sector budgeting, finance, procurement, contracting, personnel, and capital project management.

Knowledge of cost/benefit analysis and other statistical analysis methods.

Ability to plan, direct, manage, and supervise programs and activities.

Ability to set goals, plan, and monitor multi‑million dollar budgets.

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with Senate offices and SAA departments.

Desired Qualifications

Certified CPA/FPAC candidate preferred.

Strong analytical acumen with a proven track record of analyzing complex data and delivering actionable insights.

Advanced Excel skills and experience with financial management systems and data structures.

Experience supporting cross‑functional financial initiatives and guiding others through task execution.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrates integrity, initiative, and a collaborative mindset, with resilience to manage competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment.

Working Conditions

Primarily sedentary with occasional walking; requires long periods of computer use.

Ability to safely carry items under 25 pounds.

Must be available during government shutdowns, inclement weather, holidays, weekends, and extended hours as required.

Required to be on call or report on‑site on a rotation or as required within 24 hours.

May be required to work extended hours, outside normal business hours, including holidays and weekends.

Security Clearance

Position requires obtaining and maintaining a Top Secret U.S. Government security clearance.

Applicants must be U.S. citizens.

Conditions of Employment

Must be a U.S. citizen and lawfully admitted for permanent residence and seeking citizenship per federal law.
