Role The Estimator is responsible for assembling estimates for Mechanical and/or Plumbing Projects. This position aids in the success of project procurement in preparing estimates for review by account executives and the estimating manager by performing drawing takeoffs, equipment and fixture counts, specification reviews, initiating pre-bid RFI’s and preparing all other direct project costs necessary for a complete, and responsible estimate. The estimator may be need to attend job walks or assist other departments, such as project management, sales and other managers to help meet strategic goals.

Responsibilities

Perform specification reviews and create outlines detailing project requirements.

Communicate in writing, all pre-bid questions and RFI’s to Account Executives and/or engineer of record to ensure proper preparation of bids.

Perform manual and/or digitized drawing takeoffs of plumbing/piping systems and/or sheet metal systems, using Excel spreadsheets, Bluebeam Revu and/or Autodesk FabEST MEP estimating software.

Input FabEST MEP material and labor takeoff data into final estimate spreadsheet.

Input counts of fixtures, equipment and other specialties into final bid spreadsheet.

Determine and assign unit labor hours to fixtures, equipment and specialties.

Determine quantity and types of rental equipment necessary for installation of mechanical and plumbing systems.

Assist in determining all other direct job costs necessary for project estimates.

Compose project scope letter stating job specific inclusions, exclusions and clarifications.

Assist in assembling post bid project breakdowns for turnover to project management and construction team.

Assist in post bid turnover meetings to relay project approach and estimate information to the construction team.

The salary range for this position is $60,000 to $75,000. (The compensation offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills and experience).

Qualifications

Two (2) or more years of Mechanical and/or Plumbing estimating experience with a basic understanding of plumbing and HVAC system components and installation methods.

Must have the ability to learn and perform tasks within Autodesk FabEST MEP, Bluebeam Revu and Excel software.

Must have strong organizational skills, excellent planning, communication and team skills.

Must be able to manage a variety of tasks simultaneously with the ability to prioritize

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret project drawings and specifications. Ability to effectively present information to the estimating manager and co-workers both verbally and in writing

Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced calculus, modern algebra, and advanced statistical theory.

Ability to use MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook, Bluebeam Revu, Autodesk and various database software programs.

This position will be required to work well in a team orientated atmosphere, communicating fluently with the Estimating Staff, Account Executives and Project Management and shall exhibit the drive, motivation, tenacity, ambition, and desire to win in support of Hermanson Company goals.

Education Bachelor's degree (B. S.) in engineering or construction management from a four‑year college or university, or equivalent combination of technical training and/or related field experience.
