We are the Metropolitan Council, the regional government for the seven‑county Twin Cities metropolitan area. We plan 30 years ahead for the future of the metropolitan area and provide regional transportation, wastewater, and housing services.

Position Overview The Environmental Services (ES) Division has three vacancies for either a senior engineer or principal engineer in the Plant Engineering group within the Capital Design and Delivery department. Salary ranges: senior engineer $100,526–115,000; principal engineer $111,384–140,000.

Responsibilities

Manage detailed phases of engineering work for capital projects and programs at ES Water Resource Recovery Facilities.

Provide work direction to A/E consultants and plant engineering staff.

Lead project delivery activities through planning, design, construction, and commissioning support.

Manage project budgets, formats, and procurement documentation.

Track approvals for purchase orders, change orders, and invoices.

Prepare milestone schedules and mitigate schedule impacts.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related discipline.

Four years of related engineering experience (senior engineer); five years for principal engineer.

Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) or Professional Engineer (PE) licensure in Minnesota or a state with reciprocity. PE required for many positions.

Desired Skills

Experience managing large multi‑disciplinary capital projects ($15M+).

Experience in all phases of project delivery for wastewater or water projects.

Strong written and oral communication; ability to present technical concepts to non‑technical audiences.

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, BlueBeam, E‑Builder, and other engineering software.
