WHO WE ARE
Metropolitan Council is the regional government for the seven-county Twin Cities metropolitan area. The Environmental Services (ES) Division operates and maintains the wastewater collection and treatment system in the Twin Cities region and provides coordinated long‑range water resources and supply planning.
ABOUT THE POSITION Three vacancies for Senior or Principal Engineer in the Plant Engineering group within the Capital Design and Delivery department. Salary ranges are provided below.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead project delivery activities through planning, design, construction and commissioning.
Manage project budgets and expenditures, track approval processes, and schedule milestones.
Represent the Council with regulatory agencies, local interests, neighborhood groups, and other stakeholders.
Prepare consultant work authorizations, review deliverables, and provide work direction to A/E consultants.
Monitor projects during construction and commissioning and provide engineering support services.
Perform lower‑level engineer duties as needed.

Metropolitan WRRF Effluent Pumping Station Rehabilitation – $40 M
Empire WRRF Solids Improvements – $45 M
Seneca WRRF Piping and Site Rehabilitation – $10 M
Blue Lake WRRF Improvements – $200 M
Hastings WRRF Renewal – $30 M
New Crow River WRRF – $180 M
System‑Wide Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) Replacement – $20 M
QUALIFICATIONS Senior Engineer
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
Four years of related engineering experience.
Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam (FE) or registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Minnesota or a state with reciprocity.
Principal Engineer
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a related discipline.
Registered as a Professional Engineer (PE) in Minnesota or a state with reciprocity.
Five years of related engineering experience.
DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience managing large multi-disciplinary capital projects ($15 M construction cost or greater).
Experience in all three phases of project delivery for wastewater or water projects.
Basic computer skills using Microsoft Office, BlueBeam, and E‑Builder.
Experience working collaboratively in diverse, multicultural, and inclusive environments.

Principal Engineer – Full Salary Range: $95,805 – $155,397, Anticipated Starting Salary Range: $111,384 – $140,000, Union: AFSCME Grade I, Exempt.
