Freelance Space Management Planner
We are seeking a
Freelance Space Management Planner
to support planogram development, space optimization, and visual merchandising execution for a large retail environment. This contract role combines analytical space planning with hands‑on visual merchandising and requires onsite work in the San Diego area, including local store visits.
Position Summary The Space Management Planner will be responsible for creating, managing, and executing planograms across multiple categories, ensuring accurate merchandise presentation aligned with sales performance, inventory levels, and customer experience. This role partners cross‑functionally with merchandising, store design, and operations teams to support rollouts, promotions, and category updates.
Key Responsibilities
Create and manage planograms using Blue Yonder Space Planning or similar software
Analyze historical sales data, inventory turn, and trends to recommend POG changes
Allocate fixture space across multiple categories based on performance and merchandising strategy
Maintain data integrity for all planograms and planogram assignments
Ensure visual merchandising standards are met for inline and promotional displays
Manage fixture and signage accuracy for rollouts including vendor and ordering details
Coordinate physical test sets in the planogram studio to validate layouts
Partner with Store Design to ensure planograms are accurately placed on floorplans
Publish and release store‑specific promotional planners and Action Memo packets
Provide labor estimates and support scheduling on the store master calendar
Support local store visits for test sets and execution (approximately 20% travel)
Assist with occasional travel for training or special rollout initiatives
Qualifications
Minimum 1 year of experience using Blue Yonder Space Planning or other space management software
Visual merchandising experience (in‑store or corporate)
Solid understanding of retail merchandising principles and operations
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Adobe Photoshop experience preferred but not required
Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and project management skills
Ability to manage multiple projects and prioritize effectively
High school diploma or GED required; Bachelor’s degree in Business or Marketing preferred
