This recruitment is being conducted under the Operation Hire Hawaii (OH-HI) project, a targeted outreach initiative featuring an expedited hiring process, fast‑tracing qualified applicants into job opportunities throughout Hawaiʻi.

The immediate vacancy is with the Department of Taxation in Hilo.
Salary:
$5,369 to $6,535 per month (SR‑22, Step D to I). Hiring rates will be based on availability of funds, the applicant's qualifications, and other relevant factors.
Auditors are responsible for examining accounts for the purpose of rendering an opinion regarding the financial position and operations of the governmental agencies, individuals and businesses being examined. The work requires principally the application of sound accounting judgment and generally accepted auditing standards and accounting principles.
Auditor IV
performs difficult professional auditing work by independently conducting field audits of governmental books of accounts and records or of those of business entities, regulated public utilities and transportation firms, etc.; may supervise a small group of lower‑level auditors as a project leader on less complex cases; and performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Legal Authorization to Work:
The State of Hawaiʻi requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State to be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Basic Education:
A bachelor's degree from an accredited four‑year college or university with at least twelve semester credit hours in accounting and/or auditing subjects.
Specialized Experience:
Three years of progressively responsible professional auditing experience requiring the knowledge and application of generally accepted professional accounting and auditing principles, standards, theory, and practices for the purpose of analyzing and interpreting accounting books, records, or systems.
Driver's License:
Some of the immediate vacancies require a valid driver's license at the time of appointment. The immediate vacancy has this requirement.
