Job Description USF Pediatric Neurology has two dedicated beds for sleep and video‑EEG monitoring at the Children’s Hospital located within our partner hospital Tampa General Hospital (TGH). The Children’s Hospital houses a level‑three Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and a Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), one of only two PICUs in Florida and one of only 13 units nationwide awarded the Silver Beacon Award for Excellence by the American Association of Critical‑Care Nurses.
The expanding Division of Pediatric Neurology in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine seeks two open‑rank pediatric neurologists for full‑time, clinical, non‑tenure earning faculty positions. The academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience.
We are looking for neurologists with strong clinical skills and a passion for pediatrics to join our team in diagnosing and treating patients ages 0‑21 who travel to USF Health for care from all over Florida. Our division comprises two board‑certified neurologists, a nurse practitioner, and a registered nurse. On top of providing pediatric neurology services, one of our physicians also cares for children and adults alike with sleep disorders. Collaboration is at the heart of USF Health. One such example is the tandem work we perform with comprehensive adult epilepsy and stroke teams. To fill a critical niche, we are currently building a dedicated pediatrics program, allowing us the opportunity to grow our division and extend our reach even more.
This opportunity is best suited for a motivated physician desiring a clinical practice in an academic setting. Clinical responsibilities will include providing outpatient care to children and adolescents at ambulatory sites and serving as an attending on a dedicated neurology inpatient service at TGH. Apart from fulfilling those, a successful candidate will also be expected to further the department’s mission by teaching the house staff, medical students, and residents. There will also be ample research opportunities should the provider choose to participate.
Responsibilities
Diagnose and treat neurological conditions.
Provide inpatient coverage.
Participate in the education and training of house staff, medical students, and residents.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Responsible to a Chair or other appropriate administrator of a State university. Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities. Responsible for academic advising and related activities. May represent the university, college/school, or department/unit on university and/or Statewide committees.
Qualifications
Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.
For Associate/Full Professor – normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in refereed and other professional journals.
Completed Child Neurology residency.
Board‑eligible.
Must possess or be able to obtain an unrestricted Florida medical license before start of employment.
Preferred
Board‑certified.
Fellowship in any of the following: neonatal neurology, epilepsy, headache, stroke, behavioral neurology is a plus.
Experience in academic medicine. Additional fellowships in neonatal neurology, epilepsy, headache, stroke, or behavioral neurology are a plus but not required.
