Vice President of Asset Management
Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Macdonald & Company is partnered with an Indianapolis based real estate investment and development firm to appoint a Vice President of Asset Management. Our client is an entrepreneurial, growth-oriented platform with a strong track record across residential assets and deep relationships with institutional capital partners.
As the firm continues to scale its portfolio and internal infrastructure, this newly created role offers the opportunity to take ownership of a growing set of assets and play a meaningful role in building a best-in-class asset management function.
Working closely with senior leadership, the Vice President of Asset Management will be responsible for the financial and operational performance of assets spanning lease up, stabilization, and long-term hold phases, while also supporting strategic reporting, forecasting, and investor engagement.
Responsibilities
Lead asset management and operational performance across a diversified residential portfolio.
Oversight of financial performance across assets in lease up, stabilization, and post stabilization.
Budget creation, forecasting, reforecasting, variance analysis, and cash flow management.
Partner with internal Investor Relations teams to deliver recurring reporting and financial updates to institutional equity partners.
Lead weekly, monthly, and quarterly asset performance reviews; synthesize data into clear, actionable insights for executive leadership.
Support the buildout and refinement of internal reporting infrastructure, including budgeting and dashboard tools.
Collaborate cross‑functionally with Development, Construction, Property Management, and IR teams to ensure alignment of goals and execution.
Leverage historical and real‑time operational data to support investment decision‑making and value creation initiatives.
Contribute to strategic initiatives aimed at improving reporting efficiency and centralizing institutional knowledge.
Support the long‑term evolution of the asset management function, with potential expansion into broader operations or portfolio leadership responsibilities.
Qualifications & Experience
7–10+ years of experience in real estate asset management.
Strong preference for multifamily, residential, or adjacent asset classes.
Demonstrated track record managing assets through lease‑up and stabilization.
Advanced financial modeling, forecasting, and budgeting skills.
Expert‑level proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
Experience working with institutional capital partners and formal reporting standards.
Familiarity with asset management or budgeting platforms such as Vena, Yardi, MRI, or similar tools.
Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate autonomously in lean, fast‑paced environments.
Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to distill complex data for senior stakeholders.
Collaborative, intellectually curious, and motivated to build and scale processes over time.
