Founded in 1927, St. Francis Yacht Club is steeped in over 90 years of yachting traditions. From the beginning, St. Francis Yacht Club’s membership has included many of the Bay Area’s most prominent citizens and greatest sailors. The Club’s annual regatta schedule is one of the most active in the world. Both physically beautiful and naturally demanding, the Bay provides a racer with the ultimate in wind, current and weather conditions for truly competitive, exciting sailing.

Adjacent to the Marina District, the clubhouse provides a boating and social venue for members and their guests, featuring deep‑water guest docks, outstanding dining amenities and incredible vistas of the Golden Gate Bridge and San Francisco Bay. The Club boasts a professional staff, excellent dining rooms, inviting bars and spectacular private party facilities, not to mention extensive experience in accommodating regattas of all kinds and sizes.

In addition to the city‑based clubhouse, Tinsley Island is our private slice of paradise, located 60 miles up the Delta from St. Francis Yacht Club. This 40‑acre oasis is accessed by a Club‑owned launch or private boat and offers a year‑round getaway for our members, featuring dockage and houseboats, on‑island lodging and kitchen facilities, a swimming pool, small boat fleet for member use and a variety of other diversions in a rustic, relaxing setting.

Job Summary The Race Coordinator is responsible for the successful planning and execution of all shore‑side race operations and serves as the primary point of contact for competitors, volunteers, officials, sponsors, and members. This role blends operational leadership with relationship management to ensure a professional, welcoming, and efficient race environment across approximately 35 annual regattas ranging from local series to championship‑level events.

Essential Functions Regatta Operations & Administration

Manage all shore‑side race operations for regattas and series

Lead the communication with Regatta Chairs to ensure event readiness and checklist completion

Oversee registration, waivers, scoring administration, and event documentation

Coordinate catering, meeting spaces and set‑up, ceremonies, and hospitality logistics

Manage regatta scheduling and event permits (SF Parks & Rec, YRA, USCG, GGNRA)

Maintain and distribute all regatta documents (NORs, SIs, entries, forms)

Monitor ORC / PHRF rating compliance and competitor coordination

Organize trophies, regatta gear, and event supplies

Coordinate travel arrangements for officials and VIPs as required

Ensure secure storage and reconciliation of race documentation

Attend Executive Race Committee (ERC) monthly meeting, if the Race Director is unavailable

Coordinate with the Board of Directors for final nominees, perpetual trophy updates, and keeper awards for the Club Annual General Meeting.

Communications & Community Engagement

Serve as the face of the race office for competitors, volunteers, members, and guests

Maintain strong relationships with competitors, race officials, jury, sponsors, and partners

Manage competitor and volunteer communications before, during, and after events

Maintain and update the race section of the Club website

Support marketing, photography, and event promotion efforts

Develop opening and closing ceremony scripts

Assist with production of the Monthly Volunteer Newsletter

Supervise and support the Race Assistant

Organize and support race committee volunteers

Assist with the planning of the volunteer kickoffs and appreciation events

Enforce safety standards and procedures across race operations

Support sponsorship fulfillment, research, and activation

Submit purchase orders, invoices, and monthly regatta reports to the accounting department in a timely manner

Core Competencies We’re looking for someone who is both operationally sharp and people‑focused:

Familiarity with sailboat racing is preferred (training provided as needed)

Willing to work evenings and weekends in-season (March through November)

US Sailing certifications a plus

Qualifications Sailing Knowledge

Preferred understanding of racing rules (e.g., World Sailing Racing Rules of Sailing).

Preferred familiarity with race formats, handicapping systems (like PHRF), and course setup.

Experience

Background in sailing is preferred.

Certifications

Safety certifications (First Aid, CPR) may be required.

Organizational & Leadership Skills

Strong planning and coordination abilities.

Ability to manage volunteers and communicate with competitors.

Other Requirements

Availability on weekends and during regatta season.
