Serving as Head Instructor and Head Coach, this role is responsible for planning and delivering high-quality, safe, and well-coordinated youth sailing experiences, including summer camps and youth race teams.This position requires strong organizational and communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage staff, volunteers, parents, schedules, and equipment across multiple concurrent programs. The role works closely with the Sailing Program Director, CBP leadership, volunteers, and families to ensure programs align with CBP’s mission, safety standards, and strategic priorities.**The Community Boating Program (CBP)** is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing safe, fun, and inclusive access to the water for our community. Based in Port Angeles, Washington, CBP operates in a remarkable maritime setting with sweeping views of the Olympic Mountains and outstanding sailing conditions in the Strait of Juan de Fuca. Our location offers exceptional access to regional sailing communities, including British Columbia and the greater Seattle area. We serve sailors of all ages through youth sailing, adult education, and community programs, guided by a strong commitment to safety, professionalism, mentorship, and community. At CBP, our work is centered on building skills, confidence, and a lifelong love of sailing that extends well beyond any single season or program.Job Requirements**Core Responsibilities*** Program Leadership & Delivery* Plan, organize, and oversee youth summer sailing camps* Oversee youth race team programs, which may include Opti, Middle School, High School, and Youth Keelboat teams* Develop and clearly communicate training schedules, regatta plans, and expectations**Annual Planning*** Develop and maintain the annual youth sailing calendar (camps, practices, regattas, clinics)* Ensure alignment between schedules, staffing, equipment, and budget**Staff & Volunteer Management*** Serve as Head Instructor and Head Coach* Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate seasonal coaching staff* Recruit, supervise, and support program volunteers* Review and approve staff timesheets as directed**Budget & Program Administration*** Provide input into annual youth program budget planning* Manage programs within approved budget parameters**Equipment & Fleet Management*** Oversee maintenance, safety, and readiness of youth boats and equipment* Maintain inventory and recommend equipment purchases**Board, Parent & Community Engagement*** Communicate regularly with the Sailing Program Director* Provide quarterly written updates to the CBP Board* Manage youth program registration processes* Communicate clearly and professionally with parents**Regional & Organizational Support*** Participate in regional sailing meetings* Support fundraising, marketing, and grant identification efforts**Required Qualifications*** Experience in youth sailing instruction and coaching* Strong organizational, time-management, and communication skills* Proven ability to manage staff, volunteers, parents, and multiple programs* Ability to work evenings and weekends during the sailing season**Required Certifications (Current)*** US Sailing Level 1 Small Boat Instructor (Level 2/3 preferred)* Current US Sailing membership* Safe Sport certification**Must be obtained prior to season start:*** Washington State Boater’s Education Card* CPR / First Aid certification
