Overview
Associate Director (4330C) at the Haas School of Business – Energy Institute at Haas (EI). The role reports to the Executive Director of the Energy Institute at Haas and manages the financial and research administration operations of the Energy Institute and the Strauch Cleantech to Market program, while supporting outreach to policymakers, governmental agencies, and funding entities. Responsibilities
Administer the Energy Institute at Haas with primary responsibility for administrative research and programmatic activities, including finance, human resources, contracts and grants for the unit and the Strauch Cleantech to Market (C2M) program. Hire all staff, graduate student researchers, and affiliated researchers for research projects. Manage grant and non-grant funds to ensure compliance with applicable rules; create grant fund projections and advise faculty on acceptable uses. Collaborate with EI leadership to pursue funding opportunities and revenue streams. Work with Faculty Affiliates to develop research proposals. Create funding mechanisms for training courses and POWER conferences; determine appropriate funding mechanisms for non-grant funds and coordinate with central campus to process funds. Manage the Energy Institute's budgeting and accounting processes to support a self-sustaining financial infrastructure; oversee C2M and BER C finances. Determine funding sources to pay EI and C2M staff; provide budget forecasts to Haas and EI leadership. Implement major EI programs (e.g., Energy and Environmental Economics Mentorship Program and Grad Camp) and assist faculty with other programs (e.g., Energy Camp). Assess programs’ effectiveness and recommend changes to content, policies, and procedures. Communicate with funders on administrative matters and author reports to funders. Acquire and manage confidential data for research projects; initiate data requests with utilities and other organizations; coordinate with the Industrial Alliance Office, CPHS, and Secure Research Data Computing management to secure data and manage data storage and access. Contribute to a team environment that fosters belonging; exemplify Haas' Defining Leadership Principles. Complete required training on time and engage in learning opportunities relevant to the position. Required Qualifications
Academic background or experience in energy, environment, economics, regulation or related discipline. Solid knowledge of administrative, budgetary, human resources and financial principles and practices. Strong oral and written communication skills. Ability to think creatively and independently on concepts requiring advanced analytical skills. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse internal and external stakeholders to achieve results. Ability to manage collaborations between academia, industry, and government agencies. Demonstrated capability to manage research projects, including writing reports and presentations. Excellent interpersonal skills and a desire to maintain positive and professional working relationships.
