Senior Business Development Manager (North America)
Based in Boston, the Senior Business Development Manager will be working as part of Enterprise Singapore’s team in the United States. The Boston office has a strong focus on developing partnership with VCs, Venture Builders and Universities to bridge the innovation hubs in the Northeast of US and Singapore. Briefly, the Senior Business Development Manager will work closely with the Regional Director (based in Boston) and Enterprise Singapore’s partners to:
Help Singapore-based companies and start-ups expand their businesses in North America, with focus on the following industry segments: Healthcare & Biomedical, Sustainability/ClimateTech, Advanced Manufacturing
Develop and maintain partnerships to lower market entry barriers to US States including Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Minnesota, Connecticut and Wisconsin.
The Senior Business Development Manager is expected to perform the following functions:
Responsibilities
Assist Singapore companies in entering the US markets and expand the network of in-market partners.
Develop business leads and facilitate business opportunities for Singapore-based companies across various industry sectors in the markets.
Maintain a strong network of in-market contacts and partners to facilitate and enable companies’ navigation and setting up in the markets.
Influence in-market partners and stakeholders to ensure delivery of projects and initiatives.
Demonstrate domain knowledge in priority sectors and deepen Enterprise Singapore’s knowledge, partner networks and business leads in those sectors.
Develop and manage platform projects to accelerate Singapore’s companies’ expansion plans in USA.
Plan, organise and execute physical and virtual business delegation visits, meetings and pitching sessions for Singapore-based companies doing business in the target markets.
Attend and report on relevant industry trade shows, conferences and seminars within the assigned geographical coverage to support the development of business opportunities for Singapore-based companies through market information & intelligence.
Be well versed and have a macro view on the strategic intent behind government-to-government collaborations / platforms, and actively contribute ideas towards it.
Expand and manage network of innovation intermediaries, accelerators and VCs to grow Singapore’s innovation ecosystem and encourage collaboration between Singapore startups and US partners.
Gather information and market intelligence from US companies as well as government agencies, and trade/industry associations via meetings and networking activities; and monitor news and developments useful to the sectors or markets of interest.
Qualifications
Recognised bachelor’s degree with at least 5 – 7 years of prior business development or market analysis experience and strong interest in international trade, business development and investment promotion.
Domain knowledge and expertise in key technology sectors such as biomedical/life sciences, advanced manufacturing preferred.
Prior experience in helping international companies to navigate regulatory barriers or lobbying issues.
Prior experience in working with Singapore firms or handling international projects related to the innovation and tech sectors will be a plus.
Prepared to travel frequently for work trips.
Confident presenter with good interpersonal skills and ability to drive projects independently.
Full business proficiency in English required.
The role will include travel between Boston and other key cities in the US and an annual opportunity to travel to Singapore HQ for business development and corporate training, and to build relationships with the local innovation ecosystem.
