Senior Industrial Hygienist (Supervisor)
Position available in the American Canyon District Office,

Working outdoors in a wide range of weather conditions (e.g. rain, strong winds, heat, and cold); working indoors at various workplaces; sitting at a desk, in a chair, and in front of a computer screen, for extended periods of time; moving/walking and standing for extended periods of time, including but not limited to on slopes, uneven, rough, wet, and/or slippery surfaces; using a multi‑line telephone console or a cordless telephone with headset; bending, squatting, crouching, kneeling, stooping and twisting; performing repetitive hand motion, simple grasping, fine finger manipulation, pushing and pulling with right and left hands; reaching (above and below shoulder level); lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds of equipment or work‑related materials; climbing stairs, ladders, stoops, slopes; dressing appropriately for field work with personal protective equipment; traveling via private, State vehicle, or public transportation (including overnight travel within California) may be required; and having functional vision.

Responsibilities Under the general direction of the Regional Manager in the Department of Industrial Relations (DIR), Division of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH), Enforcement Branch, the Senior Industrial Hygienist (Supervisor) is responsible for performing the full range of first‑level supervisory industrial hygiene work in the Cal/OSHA program. The Senior Industrial Hygienist has full oversight and responsibility of staff, ranging from Junior to Associate Industrial Hygienists and Cal/OSHA Enforcement Inspectors and office support staff, engaged in the administration and implementation of the Cal/OSHA program, in an assigned DIR‑DOSH Compliance District Office. The Senior Industrial Hygienist is responsible for the training, upward mobility, and maintaining discipline of employees under their supervision. The Senior Industrial Hygienist ensures that the office functions and operates daily in accordance with DIR‑DOSH directives, rules, policy and procedures and that staff promotes DIR‑DOSH Mission, Vision, Values, and Goals. The Senior Industrial Hygienist conducts, including but not limited to, specialized health inspections, health‑related accident/illness investigations, and other special assignments related in connection with health, chemical, physical and biological hazards in places of employment, throughout the State.
Qualifications
Possession of a Certificate in the Comprehensive Practice of Industrial Hygiene issued by the American Board of Industrial Hygiene or a Certificate of Registration as a Professional Engineer issued by the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers.
Relevant experience in industrial hygiene practices and methods as required by the position.
Ability to supervise staff and ensure compliance with DIR‑DOSH policies.
