Agency Attorney Level I
The Fire Department, City of New York (“FDNY”) seeks a full‑time Agency Attorney Level I in the Bureau of the Equal Employment Opportunity (“EEO”) Unit. The successful candidate will conduct thorough intake interviews and fact‑gathering; may conduct limited investigations and follow‑ups as necessary; request and review relevant documents; demonstrate an understanding of the allegations and issues; inform complainants of their rights and provide information on Department policies and processes; prepare and submit reports that are timely, clear, and concise; assist other attorneys with investigations of EEO violations; and interface with Department members in a professional manner.
Minimum Qualifications
Admission to the New York State Bar.
Either:
One year of satisfactory United States legal experience following admission to any state bar; or
Six months of satisfactory service as an Agency Attorney Intern (30086).
Incumbents must remain Members of the New York State Bar in good standing for the duration of this employment.
Experience requirements for higher assignment levels:
To be assigned to Assignment Level II, candidates must have one year of experience at Assignment Level I or two years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.
To be assigned to Assignment Level III candidates must have two years of experience in Assignment Levels I and/or II or three years of comparable legal experience subsequent to admission to the bar, in the areas of law related to the assignment.
Preferred Skills
Excellent writing, analytical, communication, and people skills.
Ability to complete assigned tasks independently, in an organized, and timely manner.
Prior experience with effective communication strategies, employee relations, and training is a plus.
